I can see them announcing it today. Tool bags - Just5
I have nothing against Fletcher but I'd like to interview other candidates before making a decision. I'd be unhappy if this went down today.

Question:
I prefer Zito. Like a lot of stuff I read and I like he has a grasp on a lot of the numbers stuff and scouting.
I understand it seems Fletcher is the front runner and people seem hesitant.
Would people be less hesitant on Fletcher if it meant he was bring Quenneville with him?

Flyers need to clear it out. Jake and Simmonds will get you 1sts. Giroux can stay. It’s never been clearer to me what needs to happen here. If the right buttons are pushed. A quick turnaround will happen with the cap space and young players - Just5
Except I fear we will see Wayne and (hopefully not) Voracek traded for a goalie and a center, not draft picks.
I still like Voracek, despite his faults. He will be very hard to replace and trading him will be a step back. He is likely to be the best player in the trade and the team losing the best player typically loses that trade. |

Well, the guy hiring him has just as bad if not worse body of work.
I forgot about the Gagne trade(s). In 2010 Holmgren got a crash test dummy with an awful contract, and 4th round pick, then essentially 3 years later traded a 4th round pick to get an older, less effective Gagne back. Can't make it up.
Outside of Carter, Richards, and Zhitnik trades this is just littered with one disaster after another. WTF is Holmgren still here?

Edit: 3 trades in a row. JVR for L. Schenn, Bobrovsky, and Kubina.

We're so lucky to have Bill as our guy. Most hockey writers don't come close to how detailed and unbiased he is in his analysis. Thanks for that, Bill!
It's sad to see Hexy go. He was my favorite player as a kid, and I hoped he would bring the intensity he played with to the GM role. He had an opposite approach, which in hindsight was the right way to go for the first 2-3 years of his tenure, but obviously he didn't change his mindset enough as the system started to fill up with some great assets and fans were ready for this team to reach the next level. All of Ron's faults have been discussed ad nauseam, so hopefully in time he is also remembered for the good he accomplished while he held the role. Our prospect pool is looking great, and our cap woes have been taken care of due to some creative moves. We have a lot of room to make trades/signings now while still keeping a healthy farm system, so good job Hexy. I hope he lands on his feet in a new role somewhere else and learns from the mistakes which led to his downfall.
I don't have a good feeling about the coaching situation. Lappy and Hak are still here. Who would of thought when heads began to roll that those two would still be around? Maybe I'm wrong, but I have a gut feeling that if Fletcher is brought in, Hakstol will be given a chance to prove himself even beyond this season. Hommer seems to be a supporter of Hak's now, and I have a feeling he will want to be more involved in the short-mid term planning for the team. |

Him playing this season if he was effective at pk and shut down D would have been a huge boost for the team. His injuries have been terrible. |

The Tuch trade and the Hanzel deals are just bad.
I’d like the Dubnyk for a third rd pick for the Flyers though. |

A lot of fans hate how patient Hextall was with the AHL prospects. This year he called up NAK, and Hak played him 5 minutes a night on the 4th line. If Hextall was such a micro manager, why would he call up a guy and then let the coach play him one or two shifts per period?
You can go back to Sanheim last season. Hextall put him on the roster, and then at Christmas when Manning returned from injury, Hak stopped playing Sanheim for almost a month, forcing Hextall to finally send him down. A micro managing GM would have just ordered his coach to put his first ever draft pick back in the lineup.
Of course there are many off ice areas where a GM can micro manage and it sounds like Hextall did, but if anyone thinks Hak was being held back from coaching the team the way he wanted, they're kidding themselves. - Feanor
AGREED
newest one that annoys is lindblom... weise has a good game and a blossoming kid is relegated to the 4th line again

exactly how I feel about Jake. We just don’t have a right winger with his size skating and playmaking ability in the prospect pipe line.

If they moved Simmonds in a deal for a quality goalie that can be our #1 for the next 2-3 years or a good young center who can play effectively in our top 9 and kills penalties well, I'd be fine with that. I'd expect more coming back though if we are moving Jake.

Everyone likes to go to the extreme like there always winners and losers.
Sometimes you can make hockey trades where both teams get what they want.
Look at Domi for Galchenyuk.
Weber for Subban
I think a smart GM can find something like that. Voracek is a good player. i just think we need a different mix in our lineup. |

There are writers, and then there is Bill.
This was an AWESOME read. In hockey terms, Bill is a generational talent. |

Need to send him to a team that doesn’t value 200 ft hockey. Who was the coach we went up against that told his players the flyers are a 150 ft team? I think it was cooper in Tampa

I absolutely think Simmonds is gone in a deal to fill a hole.
Jake is a much tougher guy for me to see traded and have the Flyers come out ahead. |

Tough reading that -- nobody wins, really.
Hextall's out of a job he was qualified to have, the Flyers are in last place in the Eastern Conference.
I just want them to win. This is professional sports. Performance matters.
But I won't lie: I do care about the things that Snider preached. You don't have to sacrifice winning by throwing cold shoulders at alumni, stuff like that.
Just because winning comes first doesn't mean that other things are irrelevant |

I know and we discussed this few days ago. I rather not trade for any pending UFA guys like Stone or Panarin and just try to sign them in offseason. Then maybe trade Jake. If you could sign one of those two and then trade Jake that’s unreal. Not likely but you never know. |

Love Stone but correct me if I’m wrong, he’s unsigned after this season? He’s going to get a huge next deal, more then what Voracek is currently signed for. |

All true, but you still need that shutdown pair for PK and when protecting that one goal lead in the last minute of a game facing the 6 against 5. The Flyers are missing that right now. - BiggE
I believe it was during Lavy's tenure that whenever our 3rd pair d were out there the Richards line was with them. They were the most responsible forward group on the team and the 3rd pair won't be exposed. I always felt THAT was good coaching. Too many times, the whole 5v5 group is out there for Offense. Ghost with G and/or Jake. I guess that was Murph's fault?
Now Ghost is a little different than whoever that 3rd pair was (Ryan Parent at one point?? IDK) because of his offensive ability. But when we have a lead late, Ghost, TK, Vorachek shouldn't see the ice. |
