Yeah but you get that winger you've been hoping to find to play with Draisiatl.
They lost Benning for a while so could use defenseman. - J35Bacher
It's all hypothetical, obviously, but Edmonton doesn't need to get older. They need to get smarter
They can cash out RNH and JP -- they might do that anyway. But you can't do it by getting demonstrably older in the process. You have to be smart and find guys who will age with McDavid and Draisaitl

Can't wait for a new center and goalie to fix the league's 30th best PK. |

Khaira plays a Simmonds type game. Might not have as much offense but he is 6'4" and solid skater. He would be an instant fan favorite and would fill any grit or toughness if you moved Simmonds. - J35Bacher
I know he’s an NHL player now and our prospects are not, but is that redundant with Ratcliffe and Allison ? |

At this point, you almost have to wonder if it isn't better to get a little closer to the TDL before you set it on fire
They won't do that, but right now, you might find it tougher to make any deal you like
Truthfully, if you think Elliott is back in 10 days or less, you might be better served by waiting

Not if I don't know if Allison and Ratcliff will be here.
I think Allison has all the tools to make a quick ascend but I am not totally on the Ratcliff hype. i like his game but he also is playing against kids and I think he'll take time.

I don't know. I think some of these teams need to start winning. I think thats why you saw Arizona start shifting a little to make deals to start pushing forward.
I mean your points are valid. |

Cross that bridge when you get to it.
Especially with Allison, who is coming off of knee surgery iirc. |

Canes are putting Darling on waivers.
2 more years left at 4.125.
He's been bad but would you swap Neuvirth for Darling.
At least we get a goalie who seems to be healthy and did play well in Chicago.
Canes get cheaper one year back up. - J35Bacher
I've never really had a high opinion of Darling, so I'm not terribly interested. |

Well, the guy hiring him has just as bad if not worse body of work.
I forgot about the Gagne trade(s). In 2010 Holmgren got a crash test dummy with an awful contract, and 4th round pick, then essentially 3 years later traded a 4th round pick to get an older, less effective Gagne back. Can't make it up.
Outside of Carter, Richards, and Zhitnik trades this is just littered with one disaster after another. WTF is Holmgren still here?
http://www.nhltradetracke..._by_GM/Paul_Holmgren/44/1
Edit: 3 trades in a row. JVR for L. Schenn, Bobrovsky, and Kubina.
A # 1 and # 3 for Kris Versteeg. - PLindbergh31
i give thumbs up to Streit, Mason, Boosh, Leino, Hartnell, Timonen, Kukkonen for Calder, Coburn, the return for Forsberg helped with Hartnell/timonen, and of course the carter and richards deals helped both ends
he also turned some meh players into picks. Holmgren started well and ended badly in my opinion. i think you are way too hard on him. wouldn't want him to be GM of my team but it wasn't all bad |

The Tuch trade and the Hanzel deals are just bad.
I’d like the Dubnyk for a third rd pick for the Flyers though. - Marc D
That is the only trade i flat out liked |

I was and am a huge Holmgren supporter, I love how he handles business, I know a lot of people disagreed with moves he made at the end of his gm tenure but I always felt secure he was toning to do something to make the team better and go for it every year, that was passed on from snider and I’m excited that the spirit lives in homer, I hope he remains interim gm for the rest of the year, I’m dying to see what he can and will do

The whole thing about the alumni or people saying Hextall didn't take their advice is probably being overblown a bit now. Hextall should have dealt with Holmgen's advice better, but personally don't care if the alumni or others feelings were hurt because Hextall didn't take their advice. Advice is often no more than opinions. The only opinion that matters is your boss'. - FlyerFan16
Had nothing to do with "advice" from the Alumni. There were no Alumni on the hockey ops side except for a few scouts and Hexy himself, plus Homer as team president and Clarkie as executive VP. The other Alumni who work for the team do so in other departments.

I truly do not know anything about him, would you please share your reasons?
Thank you. - missingmike
He is heavily connected to US hockey like Holmgren is.
The blue jackets are a powerhouse team right now as well through good drafting and smart trades and signings. If Zito had his hand in that, as well as his eye for drafting, and he is heavily involved in US hockey then he has a good resume to me. Add the personal endorsement by his boss and the fact he isn't fletcher.....
Zito! Zito! Zito! |

I think we get too hung up on 1st, 2nd, 3rd pair.
To me its more about minutes played. Ghost on the "3rd" pair, getting sent out on offensive draws, more offensive situations and getting big PP minutes will always get big minutes regardless of his label.
That is all I am trying to say. - MBFlyerfan
That's why I said top 4, not a pair. Top 4 normally refers to minutes played a game. |

Project to play opposite sides, and one is a LH shot and the other a RH. Probably wouldn't want both on the same line, but not redundant as I see it. |

AGREED
newest one that annoys is lindblom... weise has a good game and a blossoming kid is relegated to the 4th line again
 - -davies-
Richards and Carter and many other players better than Lindblom had spent time on the 4th line in the beginning of their career. Not a big deal.

I believe it was during Lavy's tenure that whenever our 3rd pair d were out there the Richards line was with them. They were the most responsible forward group on the team and the 3rd pair won't be exposed. I always felt THAT was good coaching. Too many times, the whole 5v5 group is out there for Offense. Ghost with G and/or Jake. I guess that was Murph's fault?
Now Ghost is a little different than whoever that 3rd pair was (Ryan Parent at one point?? IDK) because of his offensive ability. But when we have a lead late, Ghost, TK, Vorachek shouldn't see the ice. - cdearth23
Gostisbehere should be playing with players like Giroux and Voracek as much as possible at 5 on 5. |

If this team was somehow able to make a deal for Crawford and Anisimov, I feel that would be a huge step in moving this thing forward.
Maybe don't need Crawford if Elliott is back, but Anismov could slide into a 3C role and help on the PK |

Better hope Nuevirth can make it until Lyon or Elliot are healthy.
Stolarz is the #1!
