As a life long advocate of the Buffalo sports scene (Bills fan) it is good to see the Sabres competitive again. The fan base is great. I say the best in the USA.
As a Leaf fan who has seen their reemergence up close. It is one thing to win games in November or January. Its another thing to win when it counts in the spring.
Neither team can brag about winning Cups. Who cares who won more head to head or who has gone further. Its just silliness.
The Leafs appear to be further along on their rebuild. Although it is sad to watch a team so young and so unaccomplished, run into salary cap issues. The Sabres certainly look like they will be in the same boat in a year or two when their young stars will need to be paid.
To me, the Leafs still rely too much on Andersen winning games. They gave up 41 shots last night. I still worry about them having enough size and toughness to compete during the Stanley Cup playoffs. Who knows where it goes.
The Sabres recent winning streak should be celebrated but fans need to be realistic. Seven of the ten wins were OT or SO wins. All but one win was by one goal. They are 11 games over 500 but are only +11 in GF/GA. Hutton for as good as he has been, is still a cast off from St Louis. Sadly, they'll need to sign Skinner next season. Every goal he scores just put his price up higher
Looking forward to the game next week and to more banter - BernardShakey
Ok, OK we get it. The Sabres will forfeit all one goal game wins, OT Wins and SO wins that they have this year. We will not sign any free agent cast off goalies that play well. And we will trade Skinner to the leafs for a bag of pucks and a few water bottles...

We should have drafted and developed a goalie like the leafs did with Andersen.

I also think your cup window closes in +/- 4 years. JT was never the swiftest skater, and I expect the decline to hit pretty swiftly and very hard in about 3-4 years. That 11+ million will make it tough to acquire the competent D man that you so badly need. The clock is ticking for the leafs. I think you guys rushed the rebuild a bit with JT. Would have been much better off spending that cash on a D man (or 2) imo |

2 straight years in the playoffs and tied for 6th overall in the league last season kinda says that the rebuild is over. That's it's time to compete. Adding Snakevares is only a good thing.
And also, the Leafs D is a lot better than it's given credit for. Hainsey sucks, yeah, but at worst, this is his last season. |

[quote=BernardShakey]Not looking for your approval. The facts are the facts.
I couldn't agree with this guy more. As a "lifelong" Sabres fan, I'm not getting sucked into this streak. They have been 1 goal games, not 4-0, 5-1 dominating performances. I'm glad they are learning to win, but the IDIOT fans breaking out their "We're Gonna Win That Cup" Lp's from granny attic deserve what they have been fed for the past 5-6 years. I read a blog that Skinner waived his NTC for the purpose of signing on 07/01/2019 with TO. Funny how he's being compared to Briere. Let's see if he rides out of town for zeros as well. Even read some nonsense that he would be moved at the deadline for W.Nylander. If this run is real, ill start watching in mid May at the start of round 2, Meanwhile, at the end of the day, it's same old Buffalo and it's the same old Sabres. |

Didnt really mean to get sabres fans going. Just wanted to see if garth would take a stand one way or the other. And go on record if the sabres make the playoffs or not and give his opinion whats going to happen. Can only assume he doesnt think they make it by no response. How bout right a whole blog on what he thinks on that snd tell us all why he thinks what he thinks. |
