The cap is a real thing.
Its a concern, but not completely doom and gloom. - Fakepartofme
Of course it's a concern, but it is annoying that if Kapanen has a big night I have to hear he is leaving, and no one says a peep is Laine gets 5 goals about the Jets cap.
Tampa and Winnipeg have as much if not more cap concerns than us.
The actual play on the ice is not discussed enough. |

Well no
He hasnt signed, so if he sits, we'll have daily trade proposals to non playoff teams - Fakepartofme
Not for Nylander though. Make him sit and get someone else with his cap space. |

Only reason it's an issue is because Edmonton went and (frank)ed it with the McDavid draisaitl contracts. Mackenzie was on yesterday saying Marner wants 5 years at around 10m. If true these guys want Ufa money right out of entry level and a term that takes them right to Ufa years so they can cash in again even highee. Trying to hit a home run right off the bat. |

They simply have to go out and get an addition this year. Despite all the hype about the cap, they have the 3rd most cap room in the entire NHl this year. |

Sn radio was discussing the jets possible cap issues Thursday.
But you have to remember, jets cap issues....no one gives a sh!t about outside of winterpeg.
The leafs are national news, everything is amplified. Part of being a fan of a team in the 5th largest market in NA. |

It doesn't help the Leafs current situation, but for the next CBA - I am fairly confident that the current loophole - where an RFA coming off an entry level deal is not eligible for arbitration in the first year only, will be eliminatied.

The rich teams will start to get real pissed about this. The cap is not high enough with this massive change in RFAs' contracts.
They did this "Hard Cap" system to help the poorer teams, and then those teams turn around and give their players ridiculous deals (Florida giving Ekblad 7.5 million is another great example.) with the $ they get in revenue sharing and hurt everyone else. |

Winterpeg 12 free agents next year and $20m in cap space. |

Would you rather trade him for pennies on the dollar because I your backs against the wall or have him sign next year and have the player for the he next 6 years? |

Too late to trade him.
New team would have 7 hours to sign him. |

The Hard Cap sucks, especially for the Leafs.

Wonder if he would have signed already if his name was simply Bob or Joe?

Chiarelli single handedly (frank)ed the whole cap system for teams. Also ruined the market for defenseman. |

Not sure anyone would ever repeat that Larsson for Hall type deal, but he just handed-over massive deals for no reason. And to be fair, Edmonton was doing this before he got there. Why did RNH get 6 million per so fast? |

I agree, unless there is a deal in place. Leafs have far less to lose if Nylander sits. The way they destroyed San Jose this week. That first unit power play (which Nylander would not likely be in anyways) - Wow!

The issue with trading him, is you would trade him for the sake of it. Do you really want Montour or Sanheim as the centrepiece and then see Willy become PPG next year? |

Nylander simply used a flaw in the CBA where there is no arbitration for a player coming off an entry level contract. The JT signing has everything to do with this. He is no longer in the long range plan. Kapanen's emergence also hurts Nylander's long term plans to be a Leaf. He knows, he's going to be traded, he doesn't want to sign a sh!t deal only to go to some sh!thole franchise.

I’m really thinking he plays in the KHL this year.
I hope I am wrong.
It’s hard to stay rational about this - my emotions tell me that the Leafs haven’t been this close in 50 years, and this selfish little wiener can’t see that. |

He will definitely be 1st unit power play this year. Ak Bars Kazan has the 21st powerplay in the league this year, clicking at an unimpressive 14.3% |
