Given the time between dishing the puck and getting hit, the concept that he didn't try to hit him/tried to avoid him is utterly asinine.

As for the optometrist, eye I have idea...

Not close to the worst hit by Tom Wilson, but what a complete piece of garbage.

It’s only more infuriating because the guy can play good hockey.

I’ve been critical of TW for his past infractions.. but I just don’t see anything here...

He made zero effort to avoid the player. He tried to nonchalantly throw a cheap shot.

No rule for hitting from behind in open ice. He was skating backwards. I don't think he tried to hit him is where we can't get past.

and Optomotrist???? What do people see in them?

Checking from Behind occurs when a check is delivered to a player directly from behind, or diagonally from behind. The onus is on the player delivering the check to not hit from behind. This includes body checking or pushing an opponent from behind in open ice or directly into the boards or goal frame.

If a player is skating backwards with the puck you can nail him. This isn't even a case of checking as it's interference.

1) He does not have the puck

2) It is a hit from behind.

To say anything otherwise is obviously bias on your part. Now you can argue the severity of the hit, perhaps, or if you feel it is accidental (even though Wilson is looking right at the guy) 'til the cows come home... but I don't think that is an argument you will win, especially from a guy who just came of suspension for doing something similar (not the same, similar).

Love how the guy plays, but this is the poop he has to. Cut out of his game. Cannot see any thing coming from this hit but it was intentional and there is no need for it.

True enough .. this kind of play/hit happens every night in the league ... I just got done watching Canes / Ducks there we’re at least half a dozen equal/ worse in that game...

Are we as fans bent because it’s TW? I see hits worse every game every night. Sure he could’ve
avoided it .. he was looking for a freebie and he got caught. I just don’t see supplemental coming.

not a head shot, but again, completely unnecessary and from the blindside. Like, what is the point of making contact there?

The hit itself isn't that bad, it's the fact that it could have been very easily avoided and did absolutely nothing to help regain possession.

When you have the record that Wilson has as a repeat offender, you don't get any benefit of the doubt. In a vacuum, the hit is not that bad but he made zero effort to avoid the hit.

Bare minimum, this is a 2 minute interference. I would think this is more a hit from behind than a head shot, though, and that penalty is also a 5 minute major plus a game misconduct. I am not going to feel sorry for him if they throw the book at him for this incident. Does he really need to do this crap to have a job in the NHL?

Keep drinking the Kool-Aid, bud. Yours and other Caps fans’ comments on tonight’s Wilson hit sound just like the comments that were launched after his preseason hit against the Blues. He’s simply not capable of resisting the urge to make a hit up high when players are most vulnerable.

Meanwhile Oshie and Kuznetsov both out with concussions and no discipline.

Then why doesn't everyone just start skating backwards up the ice. Think about it. It's not black and white.

Agreed. 5 minutes and a game. Done.

Lucic followed a dude all around the ice and hit him when he wasn't looking without the puck.

And that’s truly unfortunate for those great players, and inexcusable by the refs, league to overlook. Wilson—as a repeat offender—is under a much larger microscope, given his past (and all too recent) indiscretions.

Unless it was from Tom Wilson, then it does not apply to the conversation. Stop trying to distract with irrelevant information or any "but this guy did this..." garbage.
