Agreed. 5 minutes and a game. Done.

Lucic followed a dude all around the ice and hit him when he wasn't looking without the puck.

ya know all the what abouts you toss around don't work when defending this guy...

Plain and simple, Lucic is a douche. Should have been a 20-game ban, at minimum.

Keep drinking the Kool-Aid, bud. Yours and other Caps fans’ comments on tonight’s Wilson hit sound just like the comments that were launched after his preseason hit against the Blues. He’s simply not capable of resisting the urge to make a hit up high when players are most vulnerable.

..Are you seriously asking me why people playing hockey don't just skate backwards to avoid being hit..?

I may be wrong, but I don't think we'll see any more discipline.

When did I say or imply there was going to be or needed to be? Doesn't change the fact that Wilson took himself out of a game for a hit that did nothing to help the play. Kind of like hitting a guy in the head in a (frank)ing pre-season game. Dude needs to use his head when he picks his spots.

Wilson lost the benefit of any doubt by being a cheap shot artist. What’s so puzzling, most of us love hard hitting but clean hockey. I even love the fighting and miss it, so long as the two combatants agree and drop the gloves. Wilson is a fairly skilled player and fighter. He is a rarity. But, his stupidity is mind boggling! The player did not have the puck, and Wilson made no attempt to avoid him, and had ample time and space to do so. After being suspended for so many dumb and illegal hits, you would think he would go out of his way to keep it clean. This wasn’t.

I will say; it's a bit maddening to see two of your top-6 forwards go out in bad hits that should have had further action, and then see Wilson get a 5-minute major for that.

Meanwhile Oshie and Kuznetsov both out with concussions and no discipline.
- Marcus Boutilier

Not connected.
Sucks they are out.
I feel for you there.
That in NO way makes Wilson’s actions OK.
Your comments are asinine.

I was understating the frustration in the Coach's comments after the game. This, in his opinion, was not an illegal play that deserved an ejection. He expressed displeasure with the fact that 2 of his players went down to hits that where questionable and no supplementary discipline was given. So I am guessing he doesn't expect any here either.

I'll let the hockey people sort it out. My guess is no further suspension. It's blogger to you...

Some of us didn't think it was penalty was the right call. Refs make bad calls. Why all the sudden is this one gospel.

What was the actual call? Just says match penalty in the stats.

As the saying goes, "live by the sword, die by the sword. His teammates do nothing but support and benefit from the way he plays, if they do nothing to curb it I don't see how they can complain when it happens to them. Maybe those hits deserved suspensions, doesn't really matter, until the players themselves call out their teammates for dangerous bone headed plays, they are going to continue to get injured. This goes for all players in the league obviously, but Wilson doesn't seem to learn or change so one can assume the Caps support that behavior.

With all that being said, I don't think this incident was that bad, it was an "accidentally on purpose" play that happens all the time. Doesn't really deserve any extra punishment, even with his past history.

Then why doesn't everyone just start skating backwards up the ice. Think about it. It's not black and white.
- Marcus Boutilier

3 miles were separating Seney from Wilson. I mean if he doesn't have the time to dodge Seney, I hope he doesn't drive... I think that skating backwards is still allowed in this league and never saw a rule indicating that if someone skates backwards, if you're behind him you're allowed to run into him.

If yes, then maybe we'll revisit hockey skating schools

Too bad for Wilson. Always liked his drive and skills, but this is too much. A real message has to be sent. Hope the players will receive it.

I don't see how he really tried to get out of the way. He shifted his legs to his right but kept his upper body completely in-line to hit the guy from behind.

I don't think it was intentionally high as Seney started an inward rotation at the precise moment before the hit, but that doesn't mean Wilson couldn't have done a whole lot more to avoid the collision. If he were really chasing his guy down the boards, he'd likely be more in a hurry to duck/dodge around the guy instead of keeping his straight line.

The point is, he can see the guy in front of him the whole way whereas the guy just recently involved in playing the puck can't see him. If it were most other players, this wouldn't likely be an issue, but it's one of the league's worst offenders for dangerous hits. Discipline is justifiable and likely in my opinion.
