Tanner, What Kings games have you actually watched to say Kovalchuk hasn’t looked good? Kovalchuk looked solid when he was playing on the top lines and was leading the Kings in points until WD came in and demoted Kovy to the bottom 6 and took him off the top PP unit and replaced him with Clifford on the 2nd line.

I said this when the Kings picked Kovy up. It’s a good deal IF the Kings let Kovy be Kovy. Let him play the point on the PP and put him with guys who can get him the puck. Don’t expect defense and know he’s only there for offense. When I said this I read pretty much the same thing from a lot of fans.


Stevens did this and it was technically working seeing how he was producing but WD hasn’t done any of this and has made him look like a total bust and is hurting his trade value.

Don't forget those were 14pts when they had a coach who only expected him to play offense. Anyone who expected Kovalchuk to play defense better start benching our defense for not scoring.

He looked more than capable of being a contributor while Stevens was here, did not look too slow for the league. I understand the danger of the contract but I think there’d be plenty of interested teams, granted not a huge return and probably have to eat some salary, but maybe a mid tier prospect and a pick.
