Certain drafts are different.

2015 is loaded. This year is supposed to be good too

- sbroads24

The situation with the Sharks and especially the Blues makes those first round picks even more intriguing.

Our 1sts are being WAY OVERRATED imo
Ppl are acting like they’re sure things
I won’t even throw out the names of the guys we’ve picked in last 1st rounds
But Botts record (as asstGM) in the 1st isn’t all that great either

Outside the top5-10, it’s still a pretty big crapshoot as to whether the guy will become a “core” player, or just a nice depth guy

- jdfitz77

Why always assume the worst with a first round pick? They also can't just as easily find a Pastrnak late in the first?

Sure
But there’s also drafts that are supposed to be great, that just turn out good
And even in the great drafts, there’s misses

I still can't understand why you take them at their word?

Eichel and ror. People lie.

It benefits both guys to not be "locker room problems" moving forward in their careers.

Why wouldn't they deny it?

2 alfa males both wanting to be captain?
Different personalities
Mix in a 31st place finish

I think your a bit gullible. No offense.
They despise each other. All the insiders repeatedly mentioned it here.

I’m not assuming the worst
I’m being realistic
EVERY team has misses

Assuming we’d pick a Pasternak with the SJ pick or one of our own just isn’t that likely

Of course,
I hope we hit a home run with the picks
But it’s just not the “sure thing” that many ppl seem to be making it out to be

I'm just not giving up a chance at a home run for only a decent player in return. That's my point of view on the 4 first round picks, especially with the Blues being so bad.

And I get roasted, and I'm sure I'll continue to, because I STILL would take Jack over McJesus. We've had a few years to watch them both, but I think many here are still caught up in all the McJesus hype and highlights, and haven't actually watched him play much. He is terrible defensively, and never checked anyone in his life. Being an offensive phenom isn't the only thing that makes a great player.
- joevthree

To be fair Matthews doesn't hit anyone either. He hits even less than McDavid. One hit every 4 games. McDavid is once a little more often than every 3.

Hitting is pretty much irrelevent for that kind of player.

I'd take Pavel Bure over Ron Francis every day of the week.

I agree with this post.

Eichel is definitely not getting overpaid at 20% less

12.5 to 10 million right?

- Boss34

Yes and actual salary Jack is 10 across the board, McDavid makes 15 this year. 15, 14, 13, 15, 12, 11, 10, 10 and almost all in bonuses his highest pay across the entire contract is 3. Jack only has two years with bonuses and they're both 7.5.

He's in my top 3, Mario, Bure and yes, seriously, Satan, I was like 12 when we got him and when he was here I only went to 2 games where he didn't score out of maybe 20. His release was filthy. But non Sabres player Roenick.

Well i definitely wouldn’t give up the Blues pick
But depending on the player,
I’d move the others

Doesn’t have to necessarily be for a stud
But if it was a guy we knew would play an important role (like Montour, for example)
Then I’d be cool with it
He might not be a home run,
but a good, young, top4 guy who could be here for a long time
We could use that kinda guy
He’s RH also

I agree with him for the most part, but I kinda consider Montour close to a home run.

It would make a potential top 6 of

Dahlin Montour
McCabe Ristolainen
Pilut Bogosian

All the more reason to have more chances at getting a keeper..... I'd feel much better finding a keeper if I have 3 or 4 chances and not just one.

That would be great.

There’s only 4 1st rounders from 2015 that haven’t recorded an NHL point, and one of them is a goalie

Fair
I just don’t think the picks are “untouchable”

Some ppl act like we are gonna get two 30goal scorers, a top pair defenseman, and a stud defensive 3C with these 4 picks

I might be exaggerating there,
but it seems like ppl think there won’t be any “misses” among the picks

I’ll take one stud, a role player, and a bust and be happy.

That’s a win

But i bet you’d take a guy like Montour over many of them

There’s still disappointments/busts in that draft
Strome at #3 is obviously notable

I’d keep the StL pick and trade for 3 “Montour” types

I’m gonna be looking at the 2020 draft quote a bit hoping that StL continues to struggle
That seems to be the pick where we’d be most likely to hit a HR

It would depend where we were picking and who i projected to be available

I get your point though
Can’t hit a HR if ya don’t swing
Just gotta be aware that you’re gonna strike out some too

I didn't want the picks traded either way to early in the rebuild but we have dahlin instead of Matthew or laine caise of murries f. Ups Murphy's law i guess
