Honestly, that one could have gone either way last night. Matthew's snipe was filthy.
Would have been an interesting shootout to say the least with the offensive talent on both sides... if only we could have burned that last 2.7 seconds. - Sabre_Tooth
this needs to be taught....in a situation like that featuring a sniper heading into the zone with only 2.7 seconds on the overtime clock...tackle the mother...it doesn't matter...odds of them scoring from the faceoff with that much times are a 100X less than allowing Matthews a shot |

3 winnable games coming up after a little cool-down rest period.
Looking good.
I would like to see the offense augmented with a move somehow. I know it probably won't happen, especially given the time of year. Olofsson over a point a game still in Roch is so intriguing. I'm sure he could help the struggling powerplay. They'll probably just keep riding this out though.
Still no regulation losses for Ullmark
That's my Pollyanna view, anyway - jcragcrumple
thx for reeding

sign Skinner to 8X8?
Cap is going up $4MM.
Molson coming off books. another 4MM
Dont resign Pominville, another $5.6MM
Trade Scandella - 4MM
Trade Sobodka - 3MM
Skinner gets a 2.5MM raise. - ImThatGuy
alright so you've created 3.5mm cap space
the year after you have to pay mccabe, mittlestadt and reinhart
dahlin the year after that |

tl:dr you add kessel when you don't care what sacrifices it causes down the road (aka winning the cup before they happen)
this team shouldnt be adding a player like him |

Make a run now, before you have to pay them all? even without adding anyone based on this logic you'll have to trade two of those guys, and you'll never be able to add because there is always an existing contract about to expire.. |

Hopefully the NHL moves toward a soft cap or luxury tax cap system in the next CBA.
Then we can spend more than the plebs in AZ or FLA or wherever |

They will never go to that because of those teams.
Two years the cap will be 90MM with expansion and revenue growth. |

Toronto is paying 1.2 of that 8 so it is under 7MM per year. - ImThatGuy
Kessel $6.8 for 3 years (after this year).
I know he is good, but I don't think I want to get stuck in that. Sorry. |

not sure they'd do that....and I kind of like the hard cap...generally keeps every team on a level playing field

Except that teams liked AZ act as an artificial cap relief/cap circumvention technique. As a fan of a team owned by a deep-pocketed family, I am all for a luxury tax |

If not that, then they should allow a team to designate one player as a "franchise player" who would not count against the cap for the life of the contract if a team so chooses |

I'll have to watch it again. Was anyone close enough to him to take a penalty to prevent a shot? |

yup, teams are always trying to find ways to circumvent the cap, and they do for a bit until it's exposed and stopped...
Arizona has the right to do what they think is best and if that's what they want to do, then fine by me...hope buffalo finds a team like that to unload a contract

I think Sobotka could have disrupted the play with a penalty |

Due to living in the Mountain time zone and working late, I only had a chance to see the third and OT. Great game! |

How long is long enough for a fan base to be punished for the dumb moves of a previous GM though? I think the league needs increased flexibility on either contract buyouts or cap flexibility |

If it’s Scandella, Nylander, and the Blues 2nd rounder in 2021 I’d do it. |

The NHL is the only one of the major 4 that has both a hard cap, and fully guaranteed contracts. Something has to give; it's not a good system imo |

I respectably disagree.
Nylander should be a trade similar to the Max Domi trade, another struggling higher pick.
Scandella, yes move him, but he has 1 more year on his deal, would like to get something before we don't resign him.
Blues 2nd in 2021: I want to save this for the trade deadline that year, to understand it's worth (are the Blues still really bad that year?) or to help make a trade to Seattle in the expansion draft. Or save it and trade our 2nd that year in those scenarios, expecting the Blues pick to be lower (better) pick.
I dont think we are ready to win the cup this year and I dont want to go all in this year. There will be a time, but not this year. |

The NHL cap is horrible. Great for hockey players but bad for teams trying to get out or holding players accountable. |

The full guarantee is god awful. Guys like Moulson getting their entire contract and counting against the cap when he belongs no where near the NHL. |

Exactly. A fan base is punished for years after a bad GM is fired. There's little recourse for anyone. It's a flawed system |
