I yelled SHOOT at a hockey game once.

Maybe you're just not saying it enough
I think all of our power play problems can be easily attributed to not enough people yelling "SET IT UP!" from the 300 level
Maybe the players don't know to set it up |

I think we should all sign a group Christmas card and send one to each of Murray and Lehner because without them we would not be #winning right now.. |

Yes, yell Shoot constantly.
If they pass, grumble and say they should have shot.
If they shoot, make sure to grumble and say the pass was wide open.
Rinse, repeat. |

Fhew, I thought I was doing it wrong for a while, I don't want to seem like those other uneducated fans out there. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

A cause for concern for the rest of the season and a big reason we've lost these last few games against the best teams in the league is secondary scoring... part of trading O'Reillly was the promise of a more well rounded line up...
Thus far
- Sobotka is on pace for 15 points this year down from 31 he put up last year
- Berglund is on pace for 14 points he put up 26 in 57 games last year
- Thompson is on pace for 21 points which is fine for a 3rd/4th liner
The rest of the bottom 9 projects
- Pominville leads the way with 52 projected points (But a large part of that is contingent on playing with Eichel
- Okposo is on pace for 42 points. About average for his time here in Buffalo but not what we paid him for
- Sheary is on pace for 37 points
- Mittelstadt is on pace for 25 points. Fine for a rookie but not for a 2nd line center
- Rogrigues is on pace for 24 points
- Girgensons is on pace for 17 points
- Larsson is on pace for 9 points...
An average playoff team (Not a top 3 team in the league)
2nd line averages around 45-50 points
3rd line 20-30 points
4th line 8-20 points
Pominville and Okposo (Both RW) have numbers consistent with a 2nd line. Sheary as a fringe 2nd liner
Rorgiues and Mittelstadt (2nd line center) have 3rd line numbers
Girgensons, Larsson, Sobotka, Berglund and Thompson all have 4th line numbers
That is the biggest problem with the team right now in my opinion. |

Pilut in a small sample size has played well enough that I forgot Scandella was even on the team, answer your question? |

Yes, thank you. If this holds up, Dahlin, Pilut, McCabe and Guhle could/should be our LHD for the next 5+ years. It's great to have Scandella as a trade chip to help us improve the top 9. |

True. I'm still very confident this is a playoff team. We played like one last night and weren't rewarded, I think we outplayed the Leafs.
Don't get me wrong, just not sure we shouldn't wait for another win streak before we bother Mr Murray lol. |

I worry Scandella doesn't have much if any value anymore. He truly has been horrendous this year. |

Adding to this post - the 8 playoff teams in the east last year - Their 2nd line center averages 57.75 points for the year. That would put our 2nd line center 32.75 points behind what the average is. This is in no means bashing the kid. I really like watching him and think he can be great in the league. But for this year I'd like to bring in a reasonable 2nd line center. Rental or with term doesn't matter to me.

here a rasmus, there a rasmus, everywhere a rasmus, rasmus.
Reminds me of when Jeanerette talked about the play he wanted to call but it never happened... (it was on an interview he did for that promo video about 5 or more years ago)
Andreychuk, Hawerchuk, and there was one more "chuk" who I can't remember (might have even been Malarchuk)...
He was going to say "here a chuk, there a chuk, everywhere a chuk, chuk..." if they scored.
Now we can just be the "Flying Rasmi" (Rasmusses?) |

"Use the drop pass" is the only acceptable thing to yell once the power play starts. When the penalty is called "Decline it!" is acceptable. |

Whoever is yelling that to Okposo from the 100 level on the powerplay is getting their message through loud and clear
"STOP, CURL TO THE WALL AND DROP IT TO RISTO!" |

Speaking of bad contracts and a precipitous decline...
4. James Neal can't get going
Mikael Backlund, Johnny Gaudreau, and Elias Lindholm were the only forwards to play more than Neal. The Flames scored nine goals. That's the recipe for a great night. Somehow, it wasn't.
Neal did not record a point. Heck, he didn't even record a scoring chance. Not one. It was a very high-paced game and he looked completely out of place, as Kent Wilson astutely pointed out.
On that note, James Neal really looked over his head in that period due to his plodding stride and foot speed.
— Kent Wilson (@Kent_Wilson) December 5, 2018
I do believe he has more to give. I also believe he's unlucky not to have at least a couple more goals to his name. With that said, his start to the season is beginning to get concerning given what the Flames committed to him. |

In all seriousness, how do people not see why it was smart to move on from ROR last offseason?

I can't speak for everyone else but I don't have a problem with moving on from ROR last season. What I have an issue with and what I laid out in my post above is that we lack a 2nd line center now and you NEED a quality one to make the playoffs.
We got back a combined 7 years in deals for two guys who are playing like 4th liners with decent cap hits and Thompson who is still up in the air at this point. I think his ceiling is likely a 3rd line 30-40 point guy but right now he needs to show some more consistency. Berglund not stepping up offensively and forcing Casey into that 2nd line center roll is also a big reason why our secondary scoring is hurting right now. |

Sure, all this is valid, but we were never winning the cup this year.
It was always about 2019-20 and beyond. When our window opens.
