IMO, they really need Sam to lead his own line. - Lunaion
Thats where I understand the people who are hating on him, but a 50-60 pt. winger for 3M and change is a good deal. But we really did draft a center and could use a third center right now. The problem is, if you give him 2 of the guys I listed at wing, does it change anything?

I'm going to see it in IMAX, which most of the movie was shot in, this Saturday. I'd rather wait and see a good copy then hurry up and watch a bad one. |

so we've got employees who are being given a responsibility one step above what they're capable of versus employees who are being paid like top dogs but producing like the employees who you yourself consider replacement level.
Honestly, which do you think is more likely to hurt this team over an 82 game season? - Sabresfan-365
Neither Reinhart nor Larsson are paid like "top dogs"
One does his job, one does not. $2m separates their pay
How many forwards have played as many minutes as Larsson and produce fewer points? I'm talking gross minutes divided by points |

Larsson has played 272 minutes at even strength(4th fewest minimum 50 mins ice time). The only player with as many minutes or less to outscore him at even strength is Tage Thompson.
It's also worth noting that Larsson receives the second highest defensive zone start ratio at even strength of anyone in the NHL (minimum 50 minutes played)
In other words, hes being paid to do nothing but play defense and is constantly played in defensive situations while putting up good defensive numbers for someone at that salary.
Pretending like he's the problem is such a cop out. |

And only one of the two is 19, and only one has been around the team for 6 years.
And Thompson has 3 even strength goals to Larsson's 1
It's not a cop out to say Larsson is the worst player Sabres regular on the roster. Idk why this is even a "hot take"
Making excuses for someone not producing is a cop out imo. I'm sure you would have said the same thing to me about ROR last year. |

See the edit, larsson brings good defense for minimal pay. You've got guys on this team making 4-6 million a year producing offense and defense that could be accomplished by 2-3 million dollar players.
Offensively he may very well be the worst, and if he was being paid at a level where offensive consistency of any sort would be expected that would be a problem. a near league minimum salary for above average defensive play is not nearly the same as paying 9 million between two defenders to accomplish nothing at either end of the ice. |

when you pay someone 7.5 million, you expect offense. when you pay someone 800k, your expectations (i know scary word for sabres fans) should be adjusted.
He may be the least skilled, he's hardly the problem, hardly worth talking about. So I don't really understand why you think the making and breaking of this team falls on a guy who makes 1 percent of our cap? |

Above average by what metric? And then compare that against offensive production. He's the worst player on the team by a solid margin.
Yes, he starts 10% of his zone starts in the O zone, but that's not because he's a defensive genius, it's because he's useless in the offensive zone. He's played in the defensive zone because it literally makes no sense to play him anywhere else |

Shots and shot attempts against. We give up way fewer when he's on the ice. Even with the hit they've taken over the last 5 games he still ranks towards the top. |

It's a hard cap world. The object is to build the best 80 million dollar roster Who is worse for the team. the 5 million dollar pylon, or the 800k guy with brick hands?
Im not saying larsson is good or that they can't do better, but on a list of things wrong with the team, he's an after thought because hes making near minimum with no term on his deal. |

We give up fewer and we generate fewer.
The best you hope from him is a draw. It's almost guaranteed to not be a win when he's on the ice |

That's basically what our fourth line is right now. A rest for our other 3 lines. Its not ideal but its hardly what's hurting this team. As expectations grow, I suspect they will address this. |

Larsson makes $1.5m
Also, Larsson conversations always turn into "what aboutisms"
"Yeah, he's not great, but what about..." That's usually the number 1 defense of him

I feel like if our 2nd and 3rd line cant score, expecting our 4th to isn't going to happen. But paying them pennies to keep the puck out of our net and to force O-zone faceoffs, which they do regularly and well, is OK. I have seen the 4th line combo of whoever isn't scratched on any given night regularly get the puck in to the O-zone, get a shot on net and then crash it. That forces a freeze and then Jacks line comes out. Their job may be simple because its all they can do, but I think our 4th line does their job pretty well. I'd love a 4th line that could pot a few. But right now, we don't even have a second line that can pot a few.

I don't know why you're choosing to see this as me defending him. I dont care about the 4th line C making 1.475 mil** (had to), my point is that he's not the biggest problem with this team, not even close.
The building is on fire, mom's having a seizure, and you're choosing to focus on the leaky faucet?
That's why everyone has been going "what about.." Not because we think larsson is the bomb.com, but because it doesnt make any sense.
What's the cost of replacing Larsson? one phone call and maybe a draft pick, send him down, bring someone up or trade for someone.
What's the cost of replacing a top 4 guy, being paid top 4 money but playing like a 7th d-man? At best, you're sending him down, still paying him something like 3.6 million, and giving up a ton of assets to bring in an actual top 4 d-man.
That's why I dismiss larsson as a problem. Not because he's "good" by any stretch, but because fixing that particular issue presents virtually no challenge right now. |

Did we not trade peanuts for Jeff Skinner? or was that just in my dream?
Idk if it was me that said it or not but as a general rule, wingers are easier to add than centres, defensemen and goaltenders.
It's not really even a debate. - Sabresfan-365
Okay so AGAIN, why don't we have more of them if its so easy??? How come nobody can answer this part of the question??? If its so easy we should have two or three of them. NOT replace one we traded away... |

Because one day we hired an incompetent boob who heroically spent all our cap space on mediocre talent instead of...you know, guys who can score.
Granted he tried with signing okposo, drafting nylander, trading for kane....he just really sucked at it. |
