A lot has happened these last few months. You missed the egging of Eichel becuase he only had 5 goals over the first 25 games of the year. So in turn I started a Reinhart poopfest. - Pegullaville
I don't know why you're choosing to see this as me defending him. I dont care about the 4th line C making 1.475 mil** (had to), my point is that he's not the biggest problem with this team, not even close.
The building is on fire, mom's having a seizure, and you're choosing to focus on the leaky faucet?
That's why everyone has been going "what about.." Not because we think larsson is the bomb.com, but because it doesnt make any sense.
What's the cost of replacing Larsson? one phone call and maybe a draft pick, send him down, bring someone up or trade for someone.
What's the cost of replacing a top 4 guy, being paid top 4 money but playing like a 7th d-man? At best, you're sending him down, still paying him something like 3.6 million, and giving up a ton of assets to bring in an actual top 4 d-man.
That's why I dismiss larsson as a problem. Not because he's "good" by any stretch, but because fixing that particular issue presents virtually no challenge right now. - Sabresfan-365
I've seen a couple great nhl passes and that nice tip on the goal lately. It's hard to not connect his recent point success: to being on eichel's line.

I’ll take Larsson and Girg’s as my shut down guys that can kill penalties and bring energy when needed all day long. These guys are glue on every single winning team. They make peanuts. They’re not goal scorers. You NEED these guys. They have a specific role.
Point the finger at guys like Okposo. Or Erod. If the guy ever learned not to turn the puck over he’d have value. Unfortunately he’s a turnover machine. Sobotka and Berglund are expensive underachievers but can’t be moved.
Point the finger at these four guys that bring NOTHING to the table.

I cant even argue with you bandit. 👍👏
I'm sick of myself arguing about Sam.

My biggest knock on sam was : lack of emotion
He seems pretty fired up lately. Good to see. - Boss34
His numbers last year away from Eichel were better than this year. So far he's got a little over 70% of his EV points with Jack; last year was only about 17%. And about 70% on the PP this year and 85% last year.
So you're not wrong, but a lot of players get a lot of their points from great players including what is universally regarded as "the pick" there, in Draisaitl(79% and 100% EV and PP this year respectively. Last year was about 50% and 100%).
Sam is what he is, a really solid 2nd line guy and PP specialist. It's unfortunate he was drafted 2nd overall, but Draisaitl has an even higher percentage of his points with McDavid than Reinhart does with Eichel, and we could have Sam Bennett instead who was also very much in the discussion. There are a lot of misses, Bennett, Dal Colle(6 whole NHL games played, ouch), Virtanen, Ritchie, in the top 10 of that draft.

Well he did have an experienced center last year (besides Jack). I know I know...

Said experienced center received a bump from Sam. Unfortunately Dobber doesn't want to show with whom ROR got his points last year. The first time I've run into that on the site. But IIRC JCrag posted something from the Athletic to the effect that Sam helped ROR last year.

Doubt Edmonton would read this post and be convinced that they should call jbotts and offer leon for sam straight up.

Neither do I, nor would anyone in their right mind. It's just to illustrate that that the argument that a player rides another's coattails is just as true for other good players as it is for Sam. It's the nature of the beast.

I'm sure there's other #2 picks that dont ride the coattails of a mega superstar.

Malkin seems like a pretty good hockey player.
Without Crosby?? - Boss34
Ok, let's say the Sabres picked Draisaitl. You really don't think Eichel would make him better? Other than one playoff series Draisaitl hasn't done anything to speak of away from McDavid. Another center who can't carry a line.

We probably wouldn't have dahlin, if we picked draisaitl.

His second year he had like 35 points in 34 games when McDavid was hurt

Ok, that's the second thing. IIRC Sam played really well when Eichel went down too. Yeah, he's better than Sam, but pretending he doesn't massively benefit from McDavid just like Sam does from Eichel is outright lunacy.
