You can't even compare the two, if Doughty never signed an extension than you could. But that's not the case.

SJ traded for a one year rental player so didn't have to give up a whole lot.

Whoever trades for Doughty, if it were to happen. Would have to give up sooo much, since he's locked up for another 8 years after this season so his value is much much higher.

The kings arent gonna take back Zaitsev on that contract, however i think the nylander and first is a start for this trade. Because doughty is who he is i think the ask would be at least Nylander, 1st rounder and Liljegren. And they may want even more then that because hes locked up long term and this is a franchise altering defensive acquisition. Truth be told he isnt going anywhere this rumor is absolutely absurd. This is one of those "i mean if you offered me a matthews and marner i guess we would have to trade doughty" kinda rumors so its complete crap.

LA is not getting either of those types of players for Doughty.

Far more likely to see guys like Muzzin, Martinez, Toffoli being moved than you are Doughty. That said, I don't have any sources. Just my own brain.

and if the Kings hang on to him through his prime, how is that any good? They'll be in a down cycle for the next 5 years ish. Even if the Kings play everything right, by the time they're ready to compete again, Doughty will be on the downside of his career.
