the one timer from the slot does not exist, the coaching staff and the players need to figure out why. At their best they had that one timer from the hash. I assume a one timer can come from the left or right, does not have to be G making the pass.

To me the PP doesn't move the puck fast enough to create lanes to shoot through. Guys block shots without hesitation these days say you need to get them moving.

Also I feell the PP is very deliberate and there isn't much movement compared to some PP's I watch

I think he is worth a good bit, I also think that whoever trades for him knows Simmer will play with a chip on his shoulder. When a team thinks they can win, they will overpay.

Simmer to Oil for RNH and Lucic, Oil retains 50%

- wcorvette

Yeah the whole "chip on the shoulder" is not getting a Nuge who is extremely important to the team on both even strength and special teams. Only way you are getting that value is if the Flyers eat all of Lucic's salary. You might be able to get a Yamamoto type prospect if salary is taken back by the Flyers.

NO.

your not geting Nugent-Hopkins for Simmonds if they are pushing for the playoffs. Maybe if your moving Voracek there.

I see Simmonds getting you something like Puljujarvi if they are going on a playoff push.

Yup and Taylor Hall wasn't available until he was. Really good GM's find deals. I tend to think RNH is they type of player who will help the chemistry for the Flyers, there was also a rumor that the Bruins were talking to Oil about him. I am not saying Simmer gets it done but something probably would.

Little different situation there, Hall for Larsson was a bad trade, but Larsson was also a high drafted young defenseman. Simmonds is a UFA on the down swing of his career. Edmonton is actually a worse teams without RNH.

I am sure he would, I don't think that is full value for Jake, RNH is about 40-50 points a season, locked up for 2 more years 6 mil. The Oil have very little CAP, I don't even think they could fit Jake under the cap in a one of one trade.

While you have Lucic with another 4 years at 6 mil after this season. So maybe you send Simmer and a Laughton type for RNH and Lucic and the Oil retain 1/2.

Who knows but if I am Fletcher I am kicking that tire.

Simmonds doesn't help the Oilers if they lose Nugent-Hopkins. Especially if Drasaitl is playing the wing.

Now say you can move Voracek there then Drasaitl can move to center and Voracek can play the wing with McDavid or Drasaitl.

The Hall trade was a reminder that you never know, just like when the Weber for Subban trade went down, who knew. Yeah I get RNH make them better but he is in the rumor mill. Hitch also has the Oil playing better D.

just spitballing with Simmonds, main point is kick those tires...

you could also flip Simmer to another team for something the Oil needs and put a package together

Maybe Edmonton would trade Alex Chiasson for Couturier, who knows just kicking tires.

Where did I ever say anything about tickets?

You also seem to talk about the Flyers like it's just hockey? It's entertainment business. So as much as no one wants to say it, yes, Hextall still had to make a commitment to make the current product better.

Hextall neglected the 18-19 team. That is a failure on his part.

- J35Bacher

I disagree that Hextall neglected the 18-19 team.

You made the statement about having someone to blame. I took it further.

Look at Burns in San Jose. He gets a lot of shots through on the PP. San jose seems to move the puck and Burns seems to move along the back to get shots through lanes.

I just don't see that in the Flyers PP.

Nugent-Hopkins for Simmonds is a pipe dream. When you go to the dealer with a budget, you can kick the tires on a Vette but you don't have the currency for it.

If Holmgren and his bosses are willing to remain patient and let the market develop in the off season, then why fire Hextall now? Doesn't add up. I think they want some moves made pretty quickly.
- MJL

Because they have seen that Hextall had this very opportunity last off-season yet did nothing to address the goal tending, center position or penalty kill. On top of that he apparently was viewed to be overly stubborn and communicated poorly with his bosses.

So having total reliance on your 2nd year pro and rookie to man the 2C and 3C spots was sound judgement?

Having two goalies coming off injuries was sound judgment?

The team was struggling and yet you didn't make any changes to address them? Coaching or players.

PK wasn't addressed.

Why have almost all the young payers this year regressed it seems?

HE said they needed to take a step forward. They aren't.

Again, so now they're going to let the new GM be patient. So easy to just say address these issues. Much different to actually do with something that makes sense. I stand by Hextall if he fought management on this.

didn't suggest it would work as a 1 for 1, did suggest the Flyers could put a package together that would work. Maybe Simmer goes elsewhere and you use those assets in a package to land RNH. I think the Oil would want a top D prospect but they are also in CAP hell. RNH is signed for 2 more years after this one, I don't think the Oil will be able to afford him after. I assume that is why his name is coming up in the rumors

point is, Flyers do have the currency, would it make sense, I dont know.

Honestly, I don’t think it will matter. I think Hextall got fired more for what he didn’t do. Primarily not upgrading the goaltending and/or adding another center in the offseason. If Fletcher goes to Holmgren and tells him that other than moving Simmonds to the highest bidder, there is no other move to be made that makes sense for us right now, I think Holmgren will get. Holmgren can sell it to his bosses by saying that the time to make the necessary moves was last summer and we need to give Fletcher an offseason to make the moves that will get us not just back into the playoffs, but able to win in the playoffs too.

Holmgren and Fletcher aren’t rookies, they know how the league works and the reality of where this team is at right now. I think the odds of Fletcher making a panic move are somewhere between extremely slim and none. Don’t read too much into what was said publicly about getting better now. That’s simply what you need to say to appease the STHs, it’s just standard sports talk and means little.

Hextall attempted to sign Taveras and Stastny. If the cost of other deals out there were unacceptable, then yes, rely on the young players rather than make bad deals.

Relying on Neuvirth was a mistake but not so in the case of Elliott. I think he also thought that Lyon could backup. He also got hurt. If Elliott hadn't gotten hurt, things would be different.

Adding one player is not going to change the PK. Again back to the same issue of what was available and for what.

You said he didn't make any changes. That's false. He brought in JVR, let go of Manning. Brought in Folin.

This is not a situation that they can trade or sign their way out of. The young players developing is how the next step was going to be taken.

I have noticed this as well. It was the Schenn and Hartnell bread and butter.
- MBFlyerfan

Schenn and Hartnell would set up close to the net. As soon as the puck goes to G they back off to the slot creating a gap for an easy pass and one timer. Very simple and very effective but they no longer do this. It drives me nuts.
