Instead of throwing body checks, the players will use their words.

5 minutes for entering ones safe space.

They need to implement a flag football atmosphere. Two flags around the player's waists. If a player bumps into another player, the player that did the bumping loses a flag. If/when the second flag is lost, that player must go to the penalty box for 5 minutes and the other team gets a power play.

What say I? The more I read comments online the more I think I'm falling into the Don Cherry / good ol days / dinosaur era hockey fan. I miss the sound of the puck on a wood stick and a good crunch. This is a contact sport. It's part of the game. I shouldn't be an old timer when I'm not even 40 yet.

Power plays abolutely kill the momentum of a game when they take up half the period. 5 on 5 play is where the action happens. Let the guys play the game, let scrums happen. Where we were 10 years ago was perfectly fine.

Strange how two of the top 3 teams in the league are Canadian teams who play with more skill and less physicality.
Suddenly the league seems to want more physicality when it’s been fighting for years to reduce it from the game.
Should we read into this that this is yet another one of Bettman’s ploys to support American teams at the expense of Canadian teams?

As a pittsburgh fan, whose team refuses to finish checks, and has to watch washington players crush Pens 5 seconds after they have gotten rid of the puck. I am still okay with it because it doesn't ruin the game, that player is no longer in the play when he passes it (in D-zone for ex.). But goodness (frank)ing gracious do they need to do something about the interference during dumps/entering the o-zone. Players will dump pucks and the d-man will make no attempt to play it, and just hold the forwards, like with their backs to the puck. There is literally no other way to describe the play to someone other than interference or holding, it drives me crazy to watch and it happens constantly.

I'll tell you what irks me; guys getting kicked out of the faceoff circle for sneezing. The NHL has made speed and flow the focus of it's mandate to improve the league. Yet this issue greatly stops up the flow. If a linesman feels a guy is cheating, then maybe a three strike rule would work better than tossing him. Because apparently it takes 45 minutes for the guilty party to skate away and have one of his wingers step in.

But my biggest pet peeve is the following:
How many times have we seen players bump into each other due to incedental contact, and only one guy falls, then the player remaining standing is called for interference?

It is a fast and physical game. Players collide regularly. No one should be penalised for being the bigger, stronger man. I've seen it so many times, and it drives me insane.

Lastly, and somewhat similar to my previous argument, I would like to analyse the Malkin suspension from about a month ago:
I can't remember who the other player was, but he came after Malkin. He initiated contact. All Malkin did was attempt to protect himself. Yes, he did move his elbow up. But that was a reflex jerk reaction to someone attacking him. Not only should he not have been suspended, but I don't even think it should have been a minor penalty. You're taking away the players right to defend himself.

So did anyone see the Sabres- blackhawks trade proposal on hockey news podcast. I obviously think it is the biggest over payment I ever heard but interested to hear other opinion.

Sabres get Kane
Blackhawks get Reinhart, pominville, top d prospect guhle, top forward prospect Olofsson top goalie prospect ukka pecca lukien, and three first round picks all this year. Blues ( if they finish in top ten it is 2020) sabres and sharks.

That can't be real. That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard in a hockey trade proposal. Is Stany Boy still the GM in Chicago? If he is, there will be a statue erected in his honour if he pulls that off.

As unreasonable as it is...nhl needs to go to international ice.
