Sure... But they aren't trading Nylander, Brown, Johnsson or anyone of significance to do it. And they certainly aren't doing it till the deadline.
They aren't - .OHOH.
Oh ok.
Brown and johnsson are moveable assets.
Nylander wont be moved, but those other two easily could.
So prepare yourself |

What stung most was when we acquired Billy Sweatt in the Versteeg trade, and he refused to sign with Toronto.
I always hated Vancouver for signing him after that.
It just wasn't fair. - Atomic Wedgie
It hurts to think how different the fortunes of the Toronto Maple Leafs may have been had he signed. |

I 2nd that.
I don't think he causes problems now...but in years 5,6,7 he will be a nuisance. - Santo_44
Imo he is not worth what he is currently being paid and may never be. |

Will this hurt the lock of Matthews to Arizona? - RogerRoeper
I'm going to miss Matthews when he refuses to play because he can't live in Pheonix. |

Honestly, we should just chase him out of town now. |

You are probably right.
He isn't a scrub though...I would pay him 3-3.5 million and be happy. |

Id like to see any deal that moves out Z's poopty contract - Fakepartofme
If the Leafs get St. Louis to bite on that thing I think it's easy to build a package from there. Liljegren/Sandin + 1st or 2nd. |

3. Nick Kypreos shook the masses last weekend, wondering on Headlines if Alex Pietrangelo would be a fit for Toronto. With a few more days to work off it, my guess is this: St. Louis put him in William Nylander discussions, but the Maple Leafs decided to keep the winger. I see two reasons. First, Nylander is six years younger. Second, they might not be able to fit Pietrangelo’s extension (he’s eligible in July) and would prefer someone with term in that particular trade. It doesn’t mean they can’t/won’t re-consider him in the future.
They are doing due diligence on defencemen. They’re not crazy about term, but may consider some length if the cap hit is small enough. The defenceman has trade protection, but if Novice-age teammate John Tavares can handle Toronto, no reason Pietrangelo can’t.
Which is it Freidman? Do the Leafs want a D with term or without |

Johnnson/Kap are involved in any significant D trade. Both need to be re upped this offseason while Lil and Sandin do not. |

That's how you work in media you play both sides.
You can probably even swing sending the 2020 first round pick to St. Louis because this year is protected from the Buffalo trade from the top 10. |

I'm going off the idea that St. Louis would want a high-end D prospect in return to replace Pieterangelo. You can trade Johnnson or Kap for Simmonds. Problem solved. |

What I got form that is St. Louis may be interested in moving Petro. He isn't untouchable.
And Dubas is looking for D.
He also said that Dubas does not care about "toughness". You look at the two top teams in the league right now and they are both being built the same way. TB and Toronto.

Wait...they have to be included in a deal for Pieteroangelo in your eyes but for any other trade no? Simmonds would be fine. |

Yeah...Petro is leaps and bounds better than Simmonds. It isn't even close.
Petro has another year.
Oh. and the Leafs need a RHD not a winger. |

At the expense of Sandin, LIljegren, Kapanen? They aren't trading all of them.
They don't need Simmonds. Let a team that actually needs a forward to trade for him. |
