Ya people need to slow it down with how much they expect kap to earn.
Hes only played 86 nhl games and has 31pts.
Most of those pts came from playing on a line with one of the best centers in the league.
Up until the melander hold out he had 10pts in 55 games.
Not earth shattering.

- Fakepartofme

He's currently on pace for 56 points this year.

How much money did we shove at Nylander for a 61 point season last year?

Be afraid.

Be very afraid.

If Corey Schneider doesn't win by december 27th, he will have gone a full year without winning a game.

He's 0-15-3 since then.

- Scabeh

Will that dude who created the Gomez website create one for Schneider?

Because our most pressing need is another forward, and we can just use our surplus on defence to address it?

for a 4-5 year span there he was easilty one of the top goalies.

but again reason 500 why you shouldn't give big contracts to goalies..then can fall off anytime

Wedge, are you looking for TSN or SN gig?

He's gone from being a questionable NHL'er to a projected top 6 player. I have as high of hopes as anybody else but his comps are there for all to see (except Santo).

Nylander threw back to back 60 pt season's up. If Kapanen finishes with 45-50 we should be happy. 9 pts last year ....one career month playing top line minutes.

Look at Sportrac for comps. 2016 JT Miller coming off back to back 20+ goal 50'ish point seasons ....tonnes of comps that should tell us that if he tapers off this season he gets 2 x 2.5ish ...if he keeps lighting it up and bags 50+ pts maybe it's closer to 3.5.

My initial point was he isn't getting 4+ on a short term deal. (frank)ing Kucherov got 4.7 x 3 on his bridge.

Lets all settle down with this sky is falling narrative.

There is still 50 games left....lots of time to score 25 goals and 50+points.

which is less than what he is on pace for. He blows all those comparisons out of the water if he keeps it up.

- Santo_44

And there is also lots of time.... not to. As you say - IF he keeps it up. and with players returning, he isn't necessarily always going to get the ice he has been. He's not going to score the same when he's on the third line with Kadri.

If he's going to get more than $4M I take the first and third as compensation instead.

The only contracts that are comparable are Mantha's and Kase. Mantha being the closest to being on par. Add in the cap increase and it is 2x3.5 for Kap.

And 1 million for Johnnson? Yeah right

- Santo_44

...AND for (frank) sakes read. I said Johnsson would start with a "1". You think he'll get 2+ milly per season?

The guy hasn't had any PP time all season. That will be used in negotiations....and he has produced on every line he has been on so.

But they don't just take one season into account. You seem to think it all rests on what they do in their contract year.

Nylander had 125 points in 185 games going into contract negotiations, and was playing on the top line. That's a long ways from 60 points in 135 games, playing on the third line.

He wont be propped up by matthews the rest of those 50 games either.
- Fakepartofme

Not this "he plays withe Matthews bs"

He has produced on every line he has been on and hasn't even played with Matthews for over 50% of the season. His most common line is actually Kadri and Marleau.

You know what else is going to be used in contract negotiations?

"Sure, if you think you can make $4M go ahead and find someone to offer you that contract. In the meantime, we're happy to have you sit until December, which will really help us with cap room anyway".

So, how many teams do you think line up to offer Kapanen that? Along with giving up the picks?

Pasternak sure got paid for one season.

So did Driasitl.

The most recent season matters the most. Sure previous seasons count too but not as much.

But Kaps agent can point to the mins and line mates he was given.

Before this year and playing with matthews...10pts in 55 games.

This year, on the top line 21pts in 31 games
Everything will be considered when he gets extended

If I'm Kapanen's agent, I'd argue that the fact that Kapanen wasn't getting first line minutes, nor PP time, just illustrates how good he is.
