Dead serious.....
Just talking to a guy in our head office that has connections with Oilers hierarchy
Apparently Marner is being offered as trade bait?
I argued there was no chance....
He is confident
That would be the end of Dubas - mr.sir

Can't believe the Leafs swindled the Oilers out of Nugent-Hopkins and Ethan Bear. All it cost was that bust Marner! - AdamFrench
If we get Bear from the Oilers, it makes Carlton expendable. Maybe Dubas flips him for a RHD. |

I'd be worried about acquiring anything from the Oilers at all.
They're stained with the stench of permanently losing. Don't want that stench in the Leafs dressing room. |

andersen being the best goalie nearly every night doesn't hurt. that the leafs have an incredible ability to score on a large % of their scoring chances doesn't hurt either.
with their talent it's a bit surprising that they can't play a better possession game but it works i guess |

the athletic had a pretty solid article about why their possession numbers aren't always the greatest, and part of it stems from their frequent use of the stretch pass.
Essentially, they put together statistics, and the Leafs use the stretch pass more than any other team in theleague by far. But what happens is, you'll see the Leafs get "hemmed in", as they miss a couple of stretch passes, then hit one. Missing a couple means a few faceoffs in your own zone because of icings. Hitting one means a Leafs breakaway. So you end up with a couple of shots on your own net, then a high danger chance, in the form of a breakaway, in the other direction. It really messes with possession stats.
the Leafs were by far number 1 in terms of attempted stretch passes, and they are also number 2 in terms of number converted.
They converted 929 out of 1524 last year. 1500 attempts!!!! that's 20 per game almost. |

almost!!!!
Anyway, it was great to put some numbers to explain some of the shots, high danger chances, etc. It gave things some pretty good context.
I also realized they love the stretch pass, but I didn't quite realize it was to that extent, before reading the article.
