... aaaaannnnddd he cleared.

Question is, does he head to Europe or Rockford?

- Justin Lowe

Did some checking and found:

Essentially Rutta has the right to be re-assigned to a European team at this time, if he'd prefer that over going to Rockford. The team wouldn't have to pay the remainder of his salary while in Europe, that'd be the responsibility of the European team. His agent would have to find a team who wants to pay the remainder of his salary and has a need/opportunity for him.

So pretty likely he plays in Rockford I'd guess then.

I really don't see the Hawks dumping 10 million on Panarin.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if they sit on cap space next year. Also, Toronto is going to have a cap problem next year so someone sheeting Matthews and/or Marner would be hilarious. Or Laine, do the Jets have 10 or 11 million free? And i think those are better spends then Panarin if they're going to throw stupid money around this summer.

Sup reload. Stan can be a total ass this summer and greatly entertain us by irritating the whole league. Can you imagone the convention after that?

So now that Rutta has cleared waivers and Davidson, Gustafsson, Anisimov and Forsling are skating, anyone want to update their opinion on a trade before the holiday deadline?

BTW Gustafsson back in for Manning for tonight’s
game.

Another note: Brandon Davidson said this is his third time skating and is surprised he's back practicing this early.

It was a meniscus injury and he was originally given a 6-8 week timetable: "Quick fix, no real damage, but something that we had to get under control."

General managers have until 11:59 p.m. local time on Wednesday, December 19 to make their moves. After that, they’ll have to wait until at least Friday, December 28 before they can start wheeling and dealing again.

I'd guess that Gus is the next to go to a team looking for a quick cheap offensive minded "D-Man". Hard to see him getting time over Keith, Seabrook, Joki, Forsling, Murphy, Dalhstrom, Manning, or even Davison once all are healthy.

When can Joki get "sent down" to play in the Juniors tourney? I feel like this will be another one of Stan's "lets buy some more time" moves to get the deck in order

Agreed. Props to you about pointing him out first. He looks awesome. VERY curious to see what he does at the Juniors. I really think this kid is gonna be something special and could be had without having the #1 pick which is perfect for us.

I still think Panarin is going to be a Hawk once again...

Haha now that would be interesting. I'd at least throw that out there on the PP with Kane at the point. That would be fun to watch

- Savetheembers33

He was outstanding at the Summer Showcase tournament, as was Jack Hughes. World Junior Tourney is always some of, if not the most, entertaining hockey of the year. Insane skill, speed, and scoring. USA should be in the hunt for a medal again too.

Do we as fans really want Bowman to make anymore personnel decisions going forward. , i say no? Brillant take out manning who can play some defense and is tough going up against a big tough team so he sits for gus who sucks good call.

Who's to say it'll cost 10M to sign Panarin?

As much as I'd love to see either of them on the Hawks that's FOUR 1st Rd picks you have to give up for either guy if he's signed for over 10M per. If you sign any guy to 8-10M it'd be Two firsts, a second and third-round picks. Steep price to pay for any time that is lacking in talent in depth

A lot of the highlights I watched were from that and he looked like a beast out there with incredible skill. Now is that because he has that much skill OR because the competition is that much lower than he is. That idk and maybe you could shed some more light on that. All I know is from what I saw, if he can grow on that and play in the NHL like that you're gonna end up with an ELITE forward who plays 200ft of hockey and gives 110% which is something we REALLY need

I hope the young kids gain solid NHL experience, Bowman dumps any piece(s) that aren't in the long term plans, has a sit down with the core if they want to be part of the rebuild, and they are a lottery team.

Drives me nuts another horrible signing is sent to Rockford since Bowman once again overpaid for a border line fringe NHL d man in Rutta. At what point does Wirtz look at these deals and grow tiresome of the money he's shelling out for little return?

Well put Rainman...just my thoughts...Stan's bringing back everyone on the backend plan this year...lol...more wasted cap space instead of getting a couple of bonafide vet dmen with some of that money...meanwhile corey is taking a beating.

Meanwhile I wouldn't get too excited about a win over a bad Pens team the Hawks have had the Pens number for a while now.

And if Bowman had actually gotten an honest to God #4 dman back in 16 when he handed Danault to the Habs for hot garbage who knows where that team ends up instead of losing to the Blues in 7.

Meanwhile back to reality tonight with a good Jets team coming in...

Embrace the tank!

100% agreed. Me either re Penguins

They will more then likely get waxed tonight vs the Jets.

I am loving the rebuild and the tank. Keep it up.....we need a lottery pick badly, and I also agree with Fatty that I don't think dumping 10 million AAV into Panarin makes a helluva lot of sense.

The Hawks need to rebuild and signing Panarin at age 27 makes their predicament worse than it is now. I want to see the Hawks go after draft picks and prospcts under 23 years of age.

I would love to see both Marner and Matthews get offer sheets for $12-13M each. There is no chance the Leafs can or would match both.

I think they have to explore what it would take to sign Panarin, just because of the chemistry they had and lackluster Powerplay. I hope they don't do anything too rash in terms of money, but make a reasonable offer and avoid the rabbit hole.

My fear is that Panarin seems to be the guy who is willing to go to the highest bidder.

Because that's what 30 goals and a ppg costs.

Austin Matthews and Partick Laine are 100% worth 4 firsts. Plus a lottery pick this year. They're relevant for last 4 years of Kane, Toews and Keith's current deals and that would be fun. The talent pool will be so diluted after Seattle that those 4 picks really won't mattee.

And the 50 Matthews or Laine get with Kane is wayyyyyy better than anything Panarin has to offer.

They have a surplus of plus defenders they can flip for picks down the line. Plus the entertainment factor of everyone losing their minds over it would be well worth the price of admission.

Honestly, if they sign Panarin: he instantly fixes the PP and the Hawks make the playoffs. He is an elite talent, and when him and Kane are on the ice together it is top notch hockey.

The question then becomes, did you 'rebuild/retool' long enough or well enough to stock up for a playoff series? Can a D corp of Keith+youngsters survive an onslaught from the likes of Winnipeg or Nashville? Can you outscore your way from trouble in the playoffs? Can you manage the cap even more now that you're right back in Cap Hell with another $8-11MM per year contract on the books?

I don't know the answer to those questions. The only contracts giving us some relief soon are Ruuta, Kunitz, Ward, hopefully Anisimov, and after next season Crawford.

Yeah, I dunno about paying him 10 Mil plus . Seems like a lot for a guy with 9 goals this season.

Tavares got 11 Mil, but he is a good step up from Panarin in terms of total package and there wasn't a ton of scoring forwards on the market.

Just me personally, for Panarin, I'm not sure I'd go over 8.5.

I do not think that is guarantee the PP gets fixed. There is some bigger problem than just 1 player.

I don't know if he fixes the Hawks enough to make them a playoff team.....maybe they can outscore their issues, but don't forget that Panarin + Kane weren't the answer when matched against top lines and didn't cut it together in the playoffs when the checking got tight. When the going got tough, they had to split them up to get either one going.

We should know real soon on whether Rutta cleared waivers.

What's everyone's guess?

- Justin Lowe

Rockford or Europe? He will be assigned to Rockford. But will he go?

Another question. Now that Rutta is off the NHL roster is Kunitz or Manning the next one on waivers? I am hoping for Kunitz.

Is anyone certain if players can be pulled off of waivers when after a claim is made? They can do it in MLB. But I am not sure about NHL.

I don't think you can pull them.

He did clear and was so far sent to Rockford.

Kunitz has NMC, so I don't think they can waive him.

Manning is fair game though.
