Are you trying to say we have too much organizational depth?
- Nucker101

Yes, Van needs more high end talent. They will just draft more Euro's and College players in the later rounds for longer development time.

Why does Ryan Biech have this weird obsession with Matt Brassard? Brassard is pretty much a pure offensive defensemen who shoots a ton but doesn't put up a ton of points. It's like a worse version of Justin Schultz. The taller version of "feelings"

Doesn’t he watch the games? Plus if he’s into corsi then I can see why he’d be high o a guy who shoots so much.

Is that what I said? Or did I say there is no room for everyone. Canucks have 28 contracts next year and need 10 for their team to fill a 23 man roster bringing it up to 38 . There is 5 contracts on the Comets that need to be renewed bringing it up to 43.

There is the issue of Lockwood and Tryamkin to figure out . By next year there will be 5 -7 contracts left and you will have this years upcoming draft and last years to figure out who gets a contract.

I know you are laughing but Canucks do have depth but it is still undeveloped

Not in CHL scouts territory
- Nucker101

I don't know what the percentage's are but in the past 30 years they've also had success in the CHL as well. Linden, Nedved, Bourdon, Hodgson and Horvat were first round picks. They actually haven't picked many CHL'ers in the first round.

Way to exaggerate but typical.

Ryan Johnson said last week there isn't enough room to give everyone ice time. Palmu sent to Finland Gadjovich limited ice time healthy scratches along with his injuries. Gagner sent to Toronto but lets keep worrying about collecting fifth rounders.

Gartieg called up to Comets . 3 goalies now

Is it a problem for you that Palmu is back to Europe or that Gajy can’t get into the lineup consistently? Our “big minutes” guys can’t even beat out AHL scrubs for a job, but sure, let’s have less of them because then it won’t matter, there won’t be any competition

Those prospects you named in that post aren’t playing because they just aren’t that good right now. You’re the one who says we overrated our scraps. Well if those prospects can’t outplay AHL scrubs then maybe we should rethink about their upside? You’re acting like the Comets are full of young guys with NHL potential that are pushing these kids out.

If anything, those guys barely playing actually hurts your argument here, it shows that the Canucks are still lacking in quality prospects.

How far back are you reaching here? I’d like to hope some changes have been made to our scouting staff since before I was born lol

Send all prospects back to junior or Europe if you can.

Just a general observation, as an organization they've made some good and bad picks from the Canadian Hockey League. I wonder how that matches up against other teams?

Yes every player that is drafted makes the NHL

Dahlen may not be ready for two more years but he may play.

I remember you being very hard against Jake now that he is getting older he is getting better. There is a shocking practice.

Demko OJ still a year or two away. Doesn't mean they are scraps.

I find it funny that you think all the guys we draft this year will be better than all the guys we drafted last year.

I already pencilled in Demko, OJ, Dahlen into next years line up. They are playing.

How about we just compare their own American vs CHL vs Euro picks over the past 10 years?

That would be more interesting than going back 30 years and other teams comparison that’s been done multiple times by people.

I’m talking about the guys who are struggling to crack the AHL. Nowhere have I mentioned the NHL.

Dahlen seems to be fine so far. Same with OJ despite his defensive woes. Demko is an AHL star. Virtanen has no trouble cracking the AHL lineup. He didn’t light it up but he was drawing praise and playing regularly.

I don't see why not. I wouldn't pencil them in if I didn't think they would be worthy already. I don't pencil people in unless I think they are already ready.

Not likely, but both of our top 2 dmen right now show that it’s possible to find them without a high pick...

It's not that simple, our CHL scouts don't make the final decision on who's the BPA. Managers do. We've had bad managers an head scouts moreso than we've had bad scouts.

They currently seem to have a more collective approach, maybe that's why it worked better with Pettersson? Or maybe they just got lucky?

Good morning,

Another game redeemed with a late push. I'm hoping the boys coasted through enough of that game that they won't be too wiped out for their back-to-backs this weekend.

New blog is up:
