Ennis has provided just as much as Lievo has.
You can’t say either has done better...
The difference?
Money. Ennis is cheaper this year PLUS next year. - Santo_44

No man, Leivo is better in practically every aspect of the game, and younger. The 100k difference or whatever it is doesn’t bridge that gap. |

Dam. I was hoping in something. So nothing major till tdl? - BreathLeafs2015
I could be wrong.
Just basing it off previous years.
Teams like St Louis and Philly will use the extra 10-15 games to see if their teams can pull it around. Why not? Their players aren’t losing any value by doing so. |
|

|
No team will make a major move until the TDL.
It happens every year. Lots of talk leading up until the trade freeze but nothing happens until the hockey games are somewhat meaningful. - Santo_44
No way Santo. Blackcocks and Bluez about to blow it up. |

Nothing major this year my friend. Slow and steady wins the race. Gotta get Marner and Matthews signed first to know where we're at. Then gotta lose Marleau and possibly Horton's contracts. Then the party really begins.
A large contingent of people said we were going "all in" when we signed Marleau. I think the brass are far more patient than what some think.
Just my opinion of course. Could be completely wrong.

Even you are entitled to an opinion. But I am going to guess the full time hockey people that know exactly what they want their players to do, and watch countless hours of broken down tape know better.
Oh and quit making sound like it’s not even close. If it was that obvious Leivo would still be here.... unless it was part of some bigger long term plan which neither of us knows about.

I’d move nylander to 1pp and marner to the second. It’s to predictable. Nylander can make great tape to tape passes but is more of a threat with the shot. Might open up some space.
Great game by Vasilevskiy. Leafs unlucky tonight. |

We don't need to do anything with Horton's contract, he can be put on LTIR. I don't know why people seem insistent about this.
Plus, I don't know what you do about Marleau - he has a NTC. If the Leafs win the cup he might retire, but that's the only thing that can realistically happen. |

Agree Marleau was probably brought in to mentor the kids on how to be a gud pro. Well worth the 6 million investment. I would venture to guess Shanny, Babs expected to feel the pain a bit longer than we did

Uhm
....
.........
Did you even read the chart? Or what I said? I said they both provide around the same.
What does the chart say? They provide the same....in fact Ennis is a tad better according to the chart....
Again. The 300k this year and the 400-500k next year does it. And yes. Lievo has a qualifying offer of minimum 1 million next year. |

Plenty of time to build this team for sure. The major pieces are in place. Got to fill out less expensive areas. And obviously Matthews not 100% just yet. That laser of a shot is wide of the target right now. And Willie as well. |

I still think the primary reason Leivo is gone is because Babschlong didn't really want to play him, and probably wouldn't anymore with Willy back. He's made it pretty clear the last few years. |

Marleau has been worth every penny and will score 20 some goals for the 100th time. He will do it again next year. I agree it was a fantastic mentoring move.
Detroit will sign him after this contract. |

That 4th line center position needs to improve. Lindholm may be decent on the face-offs, but it ends there. A better center improves Ennis's chances of scoring. |

I was thinking the exact same thing a few games ago. Switch Willy and Marner. Not forever, just to give the opponents a few different looks.
PP1 Matthews, Willy, Kadri, Marleau, Rielly
PP2 Marner, Tavares, Kapanen, Ennis, Dermott/Zaitsev |

It just makes things easier without Horton, don't have to manage the cap so closely etc. That's why he's a perfect world scenario. I honestly think the way Marleau's contract was written up, the confidence of management getting people signed, and the fact they're talking extension with Gardiner, something is up. |

We had this discussion the other night. I just think Josh added so much for that 4th line that we're not seeing right now. |

I think the advantage of keeping Horton on the CAP was to avoid problems with carry over bonus problems. Something over my pay grade. Our ELC bonus issues are not an issue starting next year so maybe Horton can slide onto the LTIR next year. |
