I would honestly put Dea in there over him. I think Dea is a better and more well-rounded player. - Rinosaur
How about Derrick Pouliot? |

Okay, so here is my off-the-wall thought. What if the Pens try to become a 'heavier' type team. I'm not saying Ryan Reaves or goons. And I don't know available names or anything but along the lines of Nick Ritchie, Adam Lowry, Miles wood, E. Kane, Oshie, Virtanen, Boone Jenner, whoever.. every team is now chasing speed. The Pens aren't the fastest team anymore and it will cost less to acquire "grit" guys over youth/speed. .
Maybe surrounding our stars with players that are a pain in the ass to play against is a better recipe than a middle of the pack speed/skill team.
I know the league is getting away from this, but I can almost talk myself into it making sense haha. - YouMeAndDupuis9
I don't know to be honest. I think heavier doesn't necessarily work for this team. What still sticks out to me is the first game this season against COL and how much they reminded me of the way the 15/16 Penguins played.
I think back to Kunitz and Hagelin. Kunitz was much faster than people give him credit for, but played a physical game and helped generate offense. Hagelin was pure speed and transition game. That's what I think the Pens should add unless it's someone with just a well-rounded game like Nyquist.
I honestly think they need another Kunitz-type. |

Has Jake played right much? I don't see the benefit of adding Pearson if it negates Jake. I do want to see Pearson with Sid though. Preferably Horny on the right though. |

People put too much emphasis on foot speed. The Pens can still be a fast team with fast passes and fast decision making. The problem lies in the defense and their inability to actually play structured defense to transition to offense. Becoming a bigger team via the forwards isn’t going to do anything when you’re not spending a lot of time in the offensive zone. The Pens are still a fast team (at least by the forwards standards in my opinion.)
Sid, Guentzel, Geno, Kessel, Rust, they’re still fast players. The problem is you can’t showcase that speed with 1 man zone entries and 4 guys below the dots on zone exits. |
