Standard player contract requires the player to give “best efforts” to the Club, and allows the Club to terminate for a “material breach”.
I’m sure the Sabres would prefer to work out a deal both sides can live with rather than risk an arbitrators decision that missing a few games and practices over a multi-year contract(actually sick or otherwise) isn’t a “material breach”. - Der Kaiser
Where would nhl retirement to the khl a la kovalchuk leave the sabres and blues cap wise? |

I just hope we don’t make any moves unless it’s for a player we plan on keeping
Trading Guhle, Nylander, any of our 1sts, or any other good assets for a “rental” would be a mistake imo - jdfitz77
TM is gone, we don't have to worry about that anymore. |

Probably didn't think he would be dealt. |

No doubt, he still should have been smarter than that. When hiscontract/trade status changes, his agent needs to be on top of that |

Yep, if he doesn't want to be here move him out. Won't be easy. |

Sabres get cap relief during suspension and upon termination. My understanding is the penalty is imposed only on the team that originated the contract - here the Blues.
But the penalty piece based on a post I thought I read yesterday. I didn’t look at that angle: only cap and termination issue |

im in the low 90s sure that botterill will not give up guhle, nylander and two 1sts for a guy who will be here only 6 months and/or is someone he loved back in pittsburgh that he thinks will help get them that additional 1 win a month they need to make the playoffs.
It helps that the team is already good |

I never said anything about what you posted, Nylander, Guhle and two firsts for anything. I said don't be so sure Nylander or Guhle aren't moved. |

Im inclined to agree that the sabres probably dont want this going to an arbitrator. I dont know what market still exists for Berglund in the NHL at his cap hit given his foot speed and the "extracurriculars".
KHL may be his final destination. Im also not totally against the blues taking the hit on this...but i think most of us would get a kick out of that. |

Other rochester folk have come around... kinda (bar wasn't set too high)
I don't know, the numbers are finally there. I think if he shot the puck more he'd have some legit NHL upside. |

I didn't say he would, but for example and I say EXAMPLE only, if Tarasenko is actually being moved, a deal like that might entice him. I would be hesitant adding two first though, maybe 1 or a 2nd. May cost a roster player also. |

I don’t think the CBA applies to KHL so he’s free to go there on his own. He can’t go to Europe without the Sabres OK.
They dmshould just let him go play in Sweden. |

I agree. They're both examples of prospects who could be sell high candidates. They're young enough that their perceived value is higher than their actual future value to this team.
If you view them as 3rd line/3rd pair guys but can flip them for top4/top 6 guys, its the right thing to do.
Im 50/50 on both of them tbh. |

I think at this point both sides would be happy if Berglund could move on |

I'm just saying, if your client has a full NMC that changes to a modified clause on July 1, it's your job to have it there and in place for when the contract changes. That's the job |

He doesn't really have a choice, no? Doubt another NHL team gives him the role he wants. And the suspension keeps him from getting paid.
He needs a new contract |
