I wouldn't call it voluntary...but at his current pace, he's a buyout candidate headed to europe.

If his end goal is to preserve his nhl career, getting his contract terminated now may work out in his favour.

I don't see it that way. If his goal is to continue his NHL career, he should try to preserve his current contract and either try to repair his relationship with the Sabres or get permission from the sabres to allow him and his agent to talk to other teams about trading for him

My point was I don't think his current contract makes it beyond jun 15 2019. I think at his current pace and role, he's an easy buyout candidate.

And I don't think any team touches his current contract with a ten foot pole.
