i think the difference though is that hayes will probably be trending downwards by the time we're competitive again, while another prospect or pick would hopefully be entering their prime when we're competitive.
No idea how soon we'll be competitive again, but that's the view I take. I'm assuming we'll have a good hayes when it doesn't matter because we'll be bad. - Mtlca66
I sure as hell hope this isnt a 5-6 year rebuild...
I think Hayes could easily be the same player or better in his early 30's as he is now. He doesn't play a game where he will wear down. imo |

We are going to be the Oilers or Buffalo. Look how impressive our young team is and all these draft picks!!!
Oh yeah, they suck at hockey though - mdw7413
Buffalo might*, MIGHT* be good now. But when you have Eichel and Dahlen, you turn that ariund kinda quick. |

So as Hayes gets older his game is gonna get better? I doubt it. That only works for legit hall of famers. |

Until Buffalo is a consistently good playoff team, they are a failure of an organization with good draft picks |

We have two high picks next draft. We have rebuilt the farm over the last two years. We have Zuc and Nam to trade for more. We have Hank, Staal, Smith and Shatty coming off the books in two years opening up plenty of money. We can be competitive in the third year and Hayes will be in his prime at 29. |

Why? His game has been getting better every year he has been here, which means he is getting older. He doesn't rely on speed, he relies on great puck possession, vision and positioning. I see no reason he can't be as good or better than he is now at 30. |

Buffalo is 19 goals better than the Rangers while having 12 more points than Rangers. Buffalo probably won't win a playoff round this year, but they are better than most of slop in the East. |

In the last 10 years they have made the playoffs twice and both times lost in the 1st round. But hey they have 19 more goals than an awful Rangers team this year... Success!!! |

They have 20 wins and 45 points. They are legit good. Idk what you don't understand about this. They are 2nd in the east in terms of points. |

Trading Hayes at this point is just dumb. There is no way we get a killing for him. Getting a low first round draft choice and fodder is just a bad conceived idea. The drafted player wont even project to where is Hayes is right now for real.
Some folks have so much faith in the Rangers ability to nail draft choices. We will be in a perceptual poop hole.
Did I say it is dumb? It is! That is all. - Greschnergy#4
well then you just have to be an advocate for him to get a 7 year 50 mil contract |

I thought he wanted 6 x 6.2 (Brooks)? - I am down with that number. |

Speaking of this. Pretty insane what Ovie is doing right now in his 14th season |

They are good so far this year. Give me a couple years of playoffs and I will say they are a good team now.
Point is they had good draft picks and by all accounts, since they started the rebuild almost 10 years ago, its been an abject failure of epic proportions. If you are ok with the Rangers being brutal for a decade and then get excited over a 1/4 of a season, so be it. Not my idea of success |

I think he could get more on open market, especially with how barren the UFA market is July 1st
the way he is playing, his price tag goes up every minute |

Yeah, On pace for 73 goals. He's on pace to shatter Jagr's mark of 54 goals by a player 33 year old or older. |

The Rangers probably would be Buffalo 2.0. But they also could be LA, Pittsburh or Chicago. I'm willing to live with that. The Jets/Atlanta were god awful too. Then they got Trouba, Morrissey, Scheifele, Laine, Helleybuck and Ehlers. I'd take that too. |

Former #Isles bench boss Scott Gordon is an NHL head coach again. Taking over for Dave Hakstol in Philly.

Agreed- Gorton F'd that up. Still think its the right move for this team. Money is not an issue while we suck and we have so much money coming off the books in two years time.
