This is the most Flyers thing they ever could have done. Finally have a goalie prospect that looks like he could be really good. Proceed to call him up to early , shatter his confidence because the team in front of him is garbage and ruin him. - FreshFlyer
Look, I don't agree with this move but lets not pretend that this can ruin him. I think it could be a set back and temporary hit to his confidence but a large part of goaltending is mental. If this can ruin him then he wasn't going to be the guy we thought anyway.

I get the feeling that Dave Hakstol's immediate future as an NHL head coach depends on how an unproven 20-year-old goalie performs tomorrow night. |

No clue how this roster is playing this bad. No clue why Hex got fired over Hacks. Lots of quality talent on the team. Be interesting to see what happens before this deadline. - bikeguy99
Hextall didnt get fired over Hak..
He got fired for while doing an amazing job with cap management and prospect pool thinking Elliot and Mr. Glass were the correct goaltending combo along with creating a horrible mix on the main roster.

My thoughts are that they fired Hextall because the rebuild wasn't moving along fast enough and Hextall wasn't aggressive enough. The team wasn't winning enough or relevant enough. Now the new GM is going to sell them on taking a deeper rebuild? I also think that Fletcher has been burning up the phones and finding the same thing that Hextall did. The trade market is prohibitive. - MJL
Maybe Fletcher can sell moving some of those vets does make them better because of the return.
I don't think there is a mandate to completely go 180 from the way Hextall did things. i think the biggest issue in all this was the way Hextall seemed to take the team hostage while not showing improvements this year.

Calling up Hart is no big deal, having him play a game or two because of injuries is no big deal. Now if he plays well in one or two games and expectations are to keep him up to become the starter for the year is absolute crazy. |

Propaganda.
A move to get some meaningless winzzz and get fans excited. Fans cheering for Hart and focused on that.
He’s nothing more than a marketing puppet at this point.
Throwing development out the window for some quick gains.
(frank) this franchise. (frank)ing joke. Burn you piece of poop, burn. |

Corporations don't serve customers, they serve stockholders. This was true in Ed Snider's time, he simply was a fan as well as the CEO. He wanted the team to win because he knew that a winning team was a lucrative team. Look at Pittsburgh, who were destined to move 13 years ago.
So you don't just fire a coach on a whim hoping it will improve with no plan in place, because as far as stockholders are concerned things can get worse. As fans, we're pretty much at rock bottom. - jmatchett383
I agree with you perspective on corporations. But firing Dave hakstol after becoming the fourth longest tenured coach in the nhl currently and third in team history wouldn’t be fire the coach on a whim. It would be firing him for years of underperforming. |

The main roster has almost exactly the same mix as last year's 98 point team. |

You are right there but goalies are fragile, this could be a major setback to his development. Instead of him possibly being the starter next season they are jeopardizing that by playing him right now. The plan with Hart should be and always should have been let him find his stride in the AHL this season , which has been happening as of late and build him up so that next season he is ready to be on the Flyers. This could all go bad very quick depending on how the team in front of him decides to play. If they play the way they did on this western trip add a couple more years to Hart's development path. |

That nusttbe terrifying for him. Look I'm no Hak apologist but goaltending and steps back by the defense sunk them this season. I do feel a little bad for him but that's how sports go |

And that 98 point club played many games last year that looked like this club, even during their wins. |

The biggest issue was business and Holmgren lost patience and sold Scott on it. |

Wilson immediately. Through xmas break. If its true coach q is interested. If not I would be okay with a 1 year interim hire and no official hiring like yeo. But if hes it long term I'll riot. |

Good Question. - Feanor
So you have it on good authority that Joel Quennville has agreed to coach the Flyers either mid-season this year or at the conclusion of this season? |

In a profession where only one franchise wins each year, you have one job: Sell hope
That's old-school advertising/corporate stuff. They're not stupid. They'll see if there's a buzz, he wins, if people come
Like I said: I wouldn't have done it. But I get it

I think they're interrupting a player who just recently got on a roll and that can set him back a little. I don't think they're jeopardizing the future for Hart. |

We just see things different.
I took the firing as Hextall had taken the team hostage and wasn't flexible. Not that Holmgren or Scott needed to be there with him making moves or on the phone. but you can't keep them completely in the dark while your current team is floundering. |
