With what we have seen, you gotta think his ability to play long term with Jack has to weigh into it. Its alot of fun to see his face after he scores. Like a kid getting his most wanted gift at Christmas. Then hes so deadpan on the interviews.

I do think your point has merit in that it sends the message to his camp that he may nor get those numbers on the open market since presumptively his production would fall off considerably withouf Jack setting him up for juicy tap ins..i.e. he would regress to his norm...which would likelt pay him closer to 7.5 to 8.0

Taking him off Jack's line doesn't bode well for winning games, nor would it be taken kindly by the Skinner side, I imagine.

Him and/or his agent may figure this would be a move by management to hurt his numbers, and consequently his asking/offer price.

I think this is probably going to be the crux of the negotiations. Hey Jeff, LA can afford to offer you a boatload of money. But then, you're on a ship drifting aimlessly at sea....or something to that effect. pick a different team, whatever. There's only a few that can afford you and even less that have a center of Eichels caliber for you to play with. The Sabres will pay him handsomely, but may be somewhat less than he could make on a team going nowhere.
