i think the sam at center thing has been put to bed. it didn't work out and he shouldn't be put there again unless it is an emergency - SabresFaninIndiana
Phil & Botts both mentioned that Sam could play Center before this season started
His only stint at Center in the past few seasons was for like 8games,
and it was with Pouliot & Griffith on his wings
I’d say the lack of scoring from lines 2&3 does constitute an emergency
To answer your question from earlier...
yes, Thompson was tried with Mitts
Not much production, although they looked ok mostly
So we are kind of outta options to jumpstart the scoring on line2
Seems to me like we are down to either trying Sam at 2C or Skinner at LW2 |

That's my hope as well. I don't think he should be owed anything. He "took his ball and went home" that tells me that he's forfeiting his salary. Don't want to play? Don't get paid. I don't get paid if I just stop showing up to work, so why should he? - HonkFortheGoose
I had a guy who worked at my company quit on the spot after 30-years with the company. He was having a bad day like we all do. Prior to him leaving, we told him if he walked out the door, we will file the paperwork with the government saying he quit and he will get nothing and he will lose his job. He left/quit. A week later he asked for his old job back. Nope. That boat has left the port. Whether it's an NHL Team or a regular business, if you quit, you quit - and the company owes you nothing. Stupidity can be a very costly thing.

Definitely. But....respectfully
If you only lose 20 points off of Sam's totals to play 2c,
75 points to 55 points .Sabres should do that.
Move pommer up, get that 20 points instead of 0 points. Maybe even in 10- 12 games.
I haven't seen anything that would lead me to believe sam could put up 55 at center. Not hating, just an opinion. - Boss34
Solid opinion... i think its hard to break up a line right now that has been pretty unstoppable for 20+ games. If that line starts to slip then I absolutely agree with you they should try something different..

I think the hate on Reinhart is solely based on the predraft reports about him and how it hasn't translated to the NHL. Here's just a few from before the draft:
"Sam Reinhart is in the race for the first overall spot in the 2014 NHL Draft. He's one of a couple of elite level forwards who will be battling it out in the top five spots of the draft. Reinhart is the complete player. He is as dangerous defensively as he is offensively and he has the all around game that will potentially make him a top line center in the NHL. He has top end hockey IQ and knows where he has to be defensively and offensively."
"Reinhart is a nice blend of poise, maturity and a high hockey IQ. He's got creative hands, excellent vision and superb instinct in the offensive end. He's able to slow things down and dissect the play. He battles hard and is a true team leader."
"An elite talent who is battling to be the 1st overall selection, Reinhart has improved each year in the WHL, recording 105 points this season. He's a premier set-up center who can also play the wing when needed. A great face-off man, Reinhart shows maturity with the puck well beyond his years. He controls the pace of the game and makes it easy to get by defensemen with his quick hands and dynamic skating."
"Reinhart has excellent hockey sense and vision. He seems to know where the puck is going before it gets there and finds the openings in the defence. He has excellent stickhandling and puck protection skills, which when coupled with his good vision and passing make him an excellent playmaker. Reinhart is one of those special types of centres who has the ability to make his linemates better."
It's hard to fault him in being overhyped. In four years at Kootenay he was outscored by Max Reinhart his first year, barely outscored Jaedon Descheneau the next two seasons and outscored the final season by Descheneau and Luke Philip (he played less games and probably would have passed them through.)
He does excel with Eichel and seems to be the best spot for him. Until he either gets chemistry with one of our other players or bring someone in he can succeed with, he should stay on the top line. - adambuffalo
"An elite talent who is battling to be the 1st overall selection, Reinhart has improved each year in the WHL, recording 105 points this season." - ok, sounds good
"He's a premier set-up center who can also play the wing when needed." - True, true
"A great face-off man," not sure, but ok
"Reinhart shows maturity with the puck well beyond his years." - Mhmm, true
"He controls the pace of the game and makes it easy to get by defensemen with his quick hands and dynamic skating." - And you lost me |

Why did Girgs not produce with Jack? Why did Pommer fall off?
Again, Samson has 32pts in 34g. It isn't all Jack. - RhinoFan

Even when Sam wasn’t playing 5v5 on a line with Eichel you can’t deny his presence on the left point on the PP allowing Reinhart more room on the ice. |

Let us try an exercise:
Think of a number 1-100, to represent the value I give your opinion.
Now subtract that number from itself. What is your final answer?

It begins and ends with Berglund/his agent not getting his updated NTC into his employer on time. If he gets that done, none of this happens.
He brought this on himself, plain and simple. - jcragcrumple
Dude they literally traded him the second his NMC kicked in. That's sketchy. It could have been being sent from Darcy's fax machine as they made the trade for all we know. |

Certainly not denying Sam's power play - good play
Mentioned numerous times, sam brings a great one time pass from the side of the net - to the front of the net |

I think it’s going to be interesting next year to see what the Sabres do.
Do they hand out a giant contract to Sam?
Is Skinner here?

This is what I have been saying, Sabres are in desperate need of a Play making number 2 center.. i would gladly give up 1 or 2 of the number 1 picks we have and prospects if we could get a legit #2 center... Mitts will be good but he is Rooking and on the smaller side. Could you imagine if we had a #2 center of say...Sean Couturier, good money and term....

If Berglund really didn't want to be traded (which seems like the case), he should have made it his priority to get Armstrong his list the day before the new NTC kicked in. That's his responsibility. To blame the GM for exercising his power is backward. It was Berglund's responsibility to fully utilize the contract to maximize it for his own gain and he didn't. He (frank)ed up, plain and simple. And then he moped about it. |

While that may be true...
i think it’s reasonable to want to see Sam at Center to see if his playmaking skills can boost the production of guys like Sheary, Thompson or Okposo
These wingers aren’t living up to expectations with Mitts & Sobatka at Center
If it doesn’t work,
it’s not like Sam will have forgotten how to play with Jack
I know it’s not ideal,
but we can always re-combine this 1st line |

Here's some advice from someone who's been around here far too long....
Don't try to keep score of who did what/said what and who's right and wrong. It's pointless and childish. It also makes you look like a total douche.
Not trying to be a jerk or anything, it's just getting tiresome to read this type of stuff every 3-4 posts (which I've now started skipping over).
Everyone here has an opinion. Sometimes they'll be right, sometimes they'll be wrong. If yours ends up wrong, just dust yourself off and move on. If yours is right, it's not necessary to gloat about it. Nobody else really gives a poop one way or the other.
Good day sir. |
