i don't disagree, but i think that's the point. That league is really about like 20-25 players. Nobody gives a poop about the rest. As long as those guys are showcased and do poop that looks cool, they'll let it slide.

It helps that the other players are for it too, those 25 raise the floor of everyone's salary.

We're at the point now where "rentals" are making 13-16 million on one year deals. Bench guys are getting McJesus level contracts.

- Sabresfan-365

Even aside from the stars Silver knows how to market the league and make the games events. And that brings in the money, plus they have a luxury tax which really helps inflate the contracts too.

Edit: And shorter deals in general, so that the money keeps getting reset and raised.

I’ve seen enough bailey
- gerbe75pts

Id rather see him than 21,28,71,
29, even 43 at times.

Thompson has shown he has elite hands and elite shot. I wanna see it develop

These first rounders are imperative to our future success. We need another 2/3rd line C, another bonafide top 6 winger, and a top 4 d-man. I’d even settle for 2/3 which would mean a 50% success rate with our four first rounders in the next two years. Asplund, Nylander, Olofsson developing into NHLers would also be nice.

McCabe + another asset IMO, could fill a big void.

Or taking a swing at Tarasenko

if you want to take advantage of the upcoming cup window, only 1 of those three can be through the draft (likely the winger, usually require less time to get through)

The other two have to be a trade and fa signing. Otherwise it will take too long and the cap crunch will kill window 1.

Id say clearing as much dead weight as they can between now and June whatever (draft day) is the most important. Puts you in a position to actually make these moves.

I question how valuable our assets are, aside from the 1st rounders.

I think perception is key.

McCabe IMO, is a guy teams can plug into a 2LD spot for the next 3-4 years and still have RFA rights over.

Team like Minny comes to mind for a Neiderrieter deal or something

a lot of it depends on the other team/gm. It's like a venn diagram. Gotta find the overlap between teams that have the kind of player you want and teams who believe your trade pieces are worthwhile.

Sure he celly's hard, but Risto as the main piece in a trade probably brings back a lot.

Maybe. Not sure how McCabe is viewed. 5/6 is my book. Not sure what that's worth....or what their plans may be for keeping him.

I think our most valuable prospects are Thompson and Asplund. I don't see either being moved.

Clearing the deadweight is just as important as having key role players on entry level deals. In the cap world the teams that get the best bang for their buck and spend to the cap are the teams like Tampa, Winnipeg, and Toronto. Yea next year the poop storm starts for those franchises and they’ll have tough decisions to make but the odds of one of those teams winning the cup this year is really high.

He way playing great before injury I would say a solid 4 or 5 and not gonna get killed if he #3 in a pinch.

Toronto and Winnipeg were irrelevant till they drafted matthews and laine.... Toronto had solid pieces in place before they tanked we had girgerson and risto pretty much.

I think if we were sold on him as a solid 4, we wouldn't be discussing trading him.

I like him though, and wouldn't be surprised at all if they plan on extending him.

Im not too worried about the role players on ELCs, mostly because the originally projected #s on those guys has more or less been way off.

I think guys like Mittelstadt, Nylander, Guhle, Borgen, Asplund etc. Can all be important guys without having crippling cap hits.

I’m sold on him but he’s going to be behind Dahlin and Pilut IMO.
