Obviously, but this was something that needed time to deal with internally. Not a big deal in my opinion. - coffee junkie
They dealt with it so well after taking an extra day that Hakstol didn't appear on the ice for practice and there was no press release ready yet saying he'd been fired. |

someone trying to get more followers - Scoob
Unlikely, only possible bias is if he and Isaac don’t get along.

Many coaches have asked when the media is making those reports. Of course it normally ends as we saw. I think it's more of a fire me statement. - dragonoffrost
No matter what you think of Dave Hakstol as a coach, I don't think he's stupid.
He knew he was a lame duck and was twisting in the wind. Pressing for a vote of confidence was smart and for the best for everyone involved. Fletcher did the right thing.
It is patently obvious that the players have tuned Hakstol out. |

I do think this is an ideal situation for several reasons. He wants to be close to family in connecticut supposively. So check. Chicago has said they wont release him to a western conference team so they likely would allow him to come here. Check. Relationship with the gm who will allow him to have influence and a say that he didnt get with stan. Check. Pieces to actually be good in the near future and Money to potentially bring in some your guys in the off season like a panarin. Check.
However. Its the middle the season. Its hard to change systems mid year and it's even harder to assemble a functioning coaching staff since nobody will give their guys up. If I'm him I want an entire off season with my guys, to assemble my staff and to go after players I want. Many players will want to come play for him and we got money to spend. We instantly become a premier destination.
If I'm Q I have a handshake agreement with fletcher to come coach after the season and I enjoy time with my family. Fletcher let's Gordon ride out see what he can do and worst case scenario we get another lottery pick. - Tfaehner
Fletch: "Q, what do you want to coach the Flyers?"
Q: "Fill a giant truck up with $100s and a few $1s then give me a 1st overall pick"
Fletch: "Hold on 1 sec..."
*puts Q on hold*
Dave Scott: "Hello, I would like to speak to Mr. Bettman"
Gary: "Hello, Mr. Scott how can I help you?"
Dave: "I want the 1st overall pick or I will relocate the team to Canada!"
Gary: "Mario Special it is."
Fletch: "Ok I am back. The truck will be parked behind Chickie and Petes, look for Gritty as he will be driving it there. 1st overall complete"
Q: "See you next year" |

Sad.
No one should lose their job because of false media reports.
Isaac should feel responsible. - ggunky
This is sarcasm, right? And first report with sources came from Steph Driver Saturday. |

Been driving all day, just tuned in. Glad they finally got it over with. Hopefully playing in front of a 20 year old kid will get them to focus a bit. Terrible situation for Hart to make his debut but I guess they are running out of healthy goalies at this point. |

is hak really that dumb to ask for a vote of confidence after that poop show? - 2Real
It was (frank)ed, six ways from Sunday. No-win for him, no-win for the Flyers
Isaac got it wrong, but SOMEBODY told him Hakstol was fired. Hakstol gets off the plane and is like, WTF? I'm coaching practice tomorrow...right?
Fletcher's like, "Yeah. You're not fired," and they say so
But Hakstol goes home and realizes the truth: There's no (frank)ing way you can coach at the WFC on Tuesday with the squad that quit on you in Alberta. You have to have the backing of the organization, because you can't coach where every single time you lose, you're getting fired
So you ask for the vote of confidence, and Fletcher, right or wrong, can't give that because he doesn't know what he wants to do -- hasn't fired him yet, but might sooner than later
So you gotta give him the knife if you're not gonna give him the assurance
What an absolute mess -- Isaac can't blow his source(s), but man, whoever that was (frank)ed over Isaac, Hakstol and made Fletcher do something before he was ready -- that explains why Gordon wasn't at practice. Fletcher, IF, I repeat IF, hadn't intended to fire Hakstol yet

you just disrupted the phantoms bringing Gordon aboard. I can't imagine until Fletcher hires someone, whether its taking the interim label off of gordon or going outside the organization, i highly doubt the coaches are let go. they are going to want to allow the new coach to hire his own assistants. |

Sounds like standard organization speak to me. Unless Gordon leads them on a 33-13-5 run coupled with a trip to the conference final, he’s gone by seasons end at the latest. |
