The whining is just embaracing to watch from Oilers coaches, media and fans. You guys were simply outplayed, out hearted, out muscled, out coached, out executed. When you shoot the puck over the glass a couple times in the game and get a couple penalties that usually means panic under pressure. When you get too many men penalty it usually means your getting dominated and want to get away from a match up but get crossed up in the pressure of moment. You talk a big game about your 5 on 5 but when it doesn't work for you, the excuses come flying. Hopkins was a broken play and McDavid got away from Horvat in final 3 mins got his first shot and set up his point. If you are gonna bit%ch and whine about not getting PP's when in intensity get turned up your gonna get dominated in the playoffs. You cant allow 3 PP goals and expect too win. Your gonna get penalties if your getting out hustled. Bo is great at moving his feet and getting angles and closing gaps. Your 3rd line is the slowest In the league overall team speed is lacking even with McDavid. Games like that you need depth to come through. Your back end makes the Canucks defense look pretty deep and solid.

What Hitchcock is complaining about is the same thing his team used to win a Stanley Cup in 1999. Especially his defense.

While I thought so at the time, in the post game, they actually showed a different camera angle that did have it clearly across the line.

solid effort, ferda. Play like that against an actual team from Tampa Bay and we might see a triple digit score

For anyone under the impression that Chiasson isn't slowing down the wonder duo, here are this season’s results with 39-97-29 and then X-97-29 with X not being Chiasson (numbers per Darcy McLeod)

GF%
64.3%
65.0%

SCF%
42.9%
56.4%

HDCF%
31.7%
60.3%

CF%
45.2%
56.0%

SH%
12.9%
11.7%

SV%
.951
.916

Pretty damning numbers. Hope Hitch can make an adjustment. I'd give Zykov the chance to be Maroon or Rieder the chance to play with skill again.

Zykov- McDavid- Draisaitl
Khaira- RNH- Puljujarvi
Rieder- Brodziak- Kassian
Caggiula- Spooner- Chiasson

On an aside, Khaira has clawed his way back up to 2.03 P/60 at 5-on-5! Top-line level production 🤙 Add another scoring winger (Nyquist) and I think it really rounds the forward corps out well.

No way No how should Jujhar Khaira get suspended. He should have only got a 2 minute retaliation penalty. That wasnt a cross check, he wasnt even on his feet. Id call it a retaliation punch with the stick in the hand. It was not a cross check to the head.

Dunn turtled like he got shot but it was to the head... sad and pathetic as they are but the Dept of Player Safety replay shows it. I like Khaira but he got him high...

So I guess the lesson is you can “lightly” cross check someone in the head and that’s worth just a fine but a harder one gets 2 games.....I’m not really complaining but I would think you shouldn’t be cross checking a guy in the head period....especially with the NHL being so worried about concussions due to lawsuits

Stamkos is quoted having said that the ice at Rogers Arena was the worst he had ever played on, considering the Oilers played there just a couple days before, this might serve to explain some of why McDavid and Drai couldn't seem to get anything to click.

Seems like they've maybe been working out how to properly cool an ice surface for 3 games a day in preparation for the WJCs.

Technically they are the same crime, one the instigator, one the retaliation. I personally think both are wrong. How ever I think they got it back wards. 90 % of the world would retaliate, in some way. Although, if he just took theres a chance he could have gifted the team a power play. Again, not condoning cross checks to the head, or any type of hit to the head. How ever Id think the Dunn should have received more trouble as the instigator of the situation and throwing the initial check. How ever player safety has deemed me a fool.

Juhjar deserves every second of his suspension. He clearly 2 hand checks Dunn in the ear. Maybe he was goated into it with the initial cross-check, but he clearly retaliated in an inappropriate way. If we expect appropriate calls to be made when infractions occur to CMD, we must accept proper punishment vs our guys when they do them. Thankfully we had little chance vs Tampa with or without Khaira so it's not gonna make or break that game. Could use him in game 2 unfortunately.

It's hard to watch all the plugs hang off McDavid like dead-weight anchors who belong in a beer league. This was recognized and has been frustrating Oil fans since his first game in the league. It should frustrate all hockey fans because it really makes the game less enjoyable to watch and it replaces high level speed/skill with troglodyte level desperation. Happens to lots of other stars as well but with McD it is just clear as day, which you might think would result in more calls considering how painfully obvious/clear it is. You'd think the league would have enough motivation to encourage the refs to ramp up holding calls on mud-skaters who engage in such desperate nonsense considering it degrades their product significantly. -RonPielep

Happens with Eichel every game, and he's not on the same level of speed as McDavid. I don't think anyone is asking to take the jostling/pushing out of hockey or the battles that occur when going for the puck, but blatant interference needs to stop. There's a difference between letting the boys play and just putting the whistles away in their totality.

Line ups at practice are as such

Nuge-McDavid-Puju
Reider-Drai-Chiasson
Caggiula-Brodziak-Kassian
Lucic-Khaira-Rattie
Spooner and Zykov rotating in (expect Spooner to be in Khairas spot as he serves his suspension)

PP units

McDavid-Drai-Nuge-Chiasson-Nurse
Lucic-Spooner-Puji-Rattie-Jones
