Didn't you just prove my point ? I think Dallas, Nashville, and Pittsburgh agree with me.
- Pegullaville

I'm coming around to your perspective is what I was getting at... I can see it. He's played next to jack or ROR his whole career. When he had to play Center in those seasons, his numbers went to hell.

So I can see a 5.5-6.6 MAX type idea... if he wants more... apparently go somewhere else for it. Neal in Calgary now and Loui Ericksson in Couver now.

Eichel isn't on a 100-point pace without Reinhart though. Probably 10 points fewer. It's tough. Reinhart elevates Eichel. I just want to see if Reinhart can elevate non-elite players too
- jcragcrumple

Half way point of a season and we have 3 players in that 1.35-.95 PPG range... I've never seen this in my time as a fan.

THAT right there is gonna be the kicker. Sam only signed a 2 year deal.

so in 2019/2020:

Reinhart: RFA
Casey: RFA
Sheary: UFA
Pilut: RFA
Dahlin: 1 year from being RFA.

That could be BAD news.

- JVince11

I understand what you are saying but here are my thoughts...

Reinart ~$6m per (if we don't trade him)
Casey ~$3.8m per (what has he done to get more than Reinhart has?)
Sheary ~UFA, not sure we need his services after that year
Pilut ~$3m per (he looks good, but as an RFA, he can't force too much more)
Dahlin ~$10m per (this one is a true wild card, if he preforms top 10 before the end of his entry level deal, this one could cost more)

You are right, that could be "bad" news, but it sure beats paying bad players to play on our team. This is why get BOGO (his deal is up then, I believe) and others off the books by then is so important as well as the (4) 1st round picks in next two years.

This I agree with as well. But the only other guy we can compare Reinhart too is a 36 year old Jason Pominville. So yea id really hope that Reinhart would make that line better but how much better then your protypical 2nd line tweener that will make a couple million less then Reinhart when he signs his new deal ?

Yet Eichel wasn't worth $10M a year or apparently can't take over games according to vast portion of the Sabres fanbase. 3 years from now his contract will be like Mackinnon making $6.9M today. Total steal.

I get Dahlin is great and all. I dont see why a lot of folks are ready to pencil him in as 10m+. What Dmen make over 10? No one right now has an AAV of >10. Doughty's kicks in next year.

By the end of Dahlin's entry level deal we could be talking about him as already the best D-man in the league. Could even be in the discussion with McDavid as the best player in the entire world. What that is worth I have no idea, but I can see why people would reserve the highest of cap hits to ensure we have enough cap space to offer him whatever he is ultimately going to make.

Don’t disagree, but the difference is minuscule compared to how much Jack elevates Sam.

Of course Jack will be better with Skinner and Sam than Kane and Girgensons or Pommer

He’s getting 10+ IMO. He’s going to be our best player next year

He's not wrong though

We have seen flashes already where he is by far the best player on the ice.

Once he starts cashing those in (turning Malkin inside out)

He might not win a Norris before his ELC is up but I would bet he is top 5 in voting his 3rd year.

It's a very tough case. He makes the best better, but he disappears with average players. Before committing, i would want to see him on a 55-60 point pace on a line without Eichel.

If this happens Eichel will win a cup before McJesus (and still will if it doesn't) and possibly even Matthews.

I hope we move down here in the standings as well. I think we are better off making the playoffs as the 2nd wildcard then 3rd in the Atlantic. To win in the playoffs you have to beat the best teams regardless. If we lose in the first round we'd pick 16-18 instead of 25.
- Pegullaville

That’s not exactly true
For example...
if the Sabres finish as a wild card, and upset a division winner in the 1st round-
but then lose in round 2,
We will still end up with a better pick in the draft order

Same thing if we are the 3rd seed & upset Toronto
As long as we lose in the next round,
and don’t make it to the Conference Finals,
then we’d still get a better pick than the Leafs (for example)

The draft order goes:
*1-3: lotto winners
*4-15: by record

Then it gets a little murky...
(This part is in reverse order, bc it’s easier to explain that way)
*31: Cup winner
*30: Cup loser
*28-29 : conference finals losers
*Next: any division winners who didn’t make the conference finals
*Below that: goes by regular season record, regardless of playoff results

He had a great start, disappeared and finally had a decent game again last night.

Read anyone who covers them, or watch them.

Smith and Bailey play a better game to be here on lines 2-4 and can add speed.

Olofsson won’t sniff Jack’s line or the PP on a injury call up.

- sbroads24

I think you could be right here, makes sense

No sense in bringing up Olofsson if he’s just gonna get “Ellie” type minutes

#Sabres lines:
Skinner🔸Eichel🔸Reinhart
Sheary🔸Sobotka🔸Rodrigues
Girgensons🔸Mittelstadt🔸Okposo
Elie🔸Larsson🔸Thompson

Dahlin🔹Bogosian
Pilut🔹Ristolainen
Scandella🔹McCabe
Guhle🔹Hunwick
Beaulieu🔹Wilson

- Shadman306

I’ve bagged on Thompson at times...
but if we are gonna play him on Line4,
then just send him down
It’s not gonna do him any good to play in those defensive situations

Unless they’re just thinking Girgs forecheck & energy can jumpstart the scoring for line3 ?

I guess at this point, anything is worth a shot
Ugh

Could they possible put mitts with two slower guys...and one that can't stay upright. WTF
- gordong

Girgs isn’t slow
And he’s certainly faster than Thompson,
who would be the obvious choice there

Just saying...
