My kid got a participation metal for soccer. I threw it in the trash and he cried and asked why I won that? I answered by asking did your team win? Did you score more goals than them? He said no. I explained to him nicely while he was upset that the team that wins gets the metal and if your team doesn't win there is no metal. Losing isn't fun. Winning is. Giving you a metal for losing is to make you feel like you won. Its to trick you. They want you to forget that you lost so you don't get upset. You should feel sad because you lost so that next time you practice harder to get better so the next time you get a chance you will be better. I want you to know you did your best and had fun and I am proud of you that. You didn't win a metal this time but maybe next time you will if you keep practicing hard.
