He'll always be a bust for a 6th overall pick, but at least he's a serviceable nhler now.
- LeftCoaster

Bust is 0 NHL games, we've had plenty of busts but he ain't one of them. He still has more upside I think.

Patience Lefty. You were way too quick to label him a bust...
- boonerbuck

I think many misunderstood his skill set. He’s not necessarily a “power forward” in the traditional sense.

He's the type of kid you pick late in the first round, not sixth overall. That said, he's made some nice progress and I like what he brings to the team now.

From twitter:

"Elias Pettersson is on pace for 45 goals over an 82 game season.
Brock Boeser is on pace for 41 goals over an 82 game season
Bo Horvat is on pace for 35 goals over an 82 game season
Jake Virtanen is on pace for 22 goals over an 82 game season

All are 23 or younger."

Virtanen is still getting better as well.

I think he’s still growing. Give him another year and he’ll start to earn his 6th overall pick. His last few games have been excellent.

He's a kid/player that can move up and down on the top three lines when he's going, a valuable commodity. I don't foresee him ever being an offensive driver but very much a much needed depth forward.

I've been blabbing on for years about building down the middle, it looks like my wishes have finally come true!

He’s getting better and still young. He’s not going to be able to do it all alone. But def could be second line winger that puts up mid to high twenties = win

Pettersson and Horvat are going to be tremendous 1/2 Centers for us moving forward i think.

His shot is impressive. His speed is top tier. His hits are effective. I think he’ll be an offensive driver from the 3rd or 4th lines. Those are the types of players that win you playoff games.

Playing for the same coach though your pro development is a huge positive in my opinion. We saw that happen to players under AV. A player goes from AHL to NHL with the same philosophy and expectations can really benefit development.

20 goals 40 points with his speed and some physical play is a win, I'll take it, I have no choice lol. If he was a little meaner he could be Raffi Torres x2.

Bieksa also said the other day that the third line of Torres Malhotra Hansen were a big reason they went to the finals. #depth

Gillis had 6 of 7 1st round picks turn into busts. Jake is not a bust at all.

I agree, he's not a bust, just being cheeky.

Edit: Gillis only had six first round picks...

I like that play that Jake scored on today, where he rolled up to the blue line and twisted it in, same play that Brock scored on the other day.
Taking advantage of the 2 guys with heavy shots, good on the coaching staff for designing that play.

the most encouraging part for me it that his sh% isn't crazy high, 12.4% is high and but not ridiculous. He's shooting the puck at a decent rate, if he keeps doing that he has a shot at 20 goals.

Unfortunately the highlights I saw didn't include Jakes goal but I see he had an assist on Eriksson's empty netter, which means Greener trusts him to be out there to defend #speed

A 70 point season in the works, who saw that coming.

I expected north of 60 the way he's been trending over his career

We've unfortunately seen a lot of 1st and 2nd round busts. The JB's have done great already IMO considering how many picks are in the show and Utica developing right now(in multiple rounds). Took a few years and a failed retool, but were on track now. I see a team that's going to go around or just below .500 for the rest of the year but January is going to be interesting considering how often the wheels have fallen off in that month the past few years, but I'm very happy because this is a better team than I thought it was and that's all I think you can ask out of a rebuilding team.

I've forgotten to record a couple of games that I missed this season, this Russian guy on youtube usually puts up extended highlights of every NHL game a few hours after they're finished. He doesn't include hits, penalties, fights, but he does include all scoring chances/goals. Bookmark his page:

Much better than Sportsnet/TSN highlights.

I expected north of 60, I definitely didn't expect 70 point guy on top of his obvious defensive acumen. Big difference between the two even though 10 points doesn't seem like much.

Nice, this is getting bookmarked for sure. The NHL.com ones are not bad at all, sports net and tsn have gotten really bad at not showing enough and trying to be a talk show.

His steals and 1st forward back have been very good over the past 10 games or so.
Kid seems to be getting better every game that I have watched.
He has moved around onto all lines, although I have only seen him on with Elias once in that 10 game period.
Nothing wrong with a player that is showing to be very versatile, plus he showed a bit of nasty against Tampa.
Team is heading in the right direction, although I do agree with you, another high pick would be nice, Benning has to make this next pick count.
