That’s not exactly true
We could win in the 1st round, and still get a better pick than the team we beat-
as long as we don’t win in round2 & make the Conference Finals
The draft order in reverse goes:
*31: Cup winner
*30: Cup loser
*28-29 : conference finals losers
*Next: any division winners who didn’t make the conference finals
*Below that: goes by regular season record, regardless of playoff results
*4-15: reg season record, non-playoff teams
*1-3: lotto winners - jdfitz77
If we win a playoff series then that would be great. Just finishing in the wildcard spot, I think Boston is going to pass us, is better for us since if we lose in the first round we would get a better pick. To win the cup you have to beat the best anyways. Whether we play Toronto, Tampa, or Washington in the first round were in for a tough series regardless. |

Disagree, both are 3rd line players right now.
Mittlestadt has been pretty bad this year. He needs less ice time and to be protected.
Sheary has been less than advertised. He needs a center to play with.
SHeary-mittlestadt - Guy wouldnt be a bad 3rd line, just need a 2nd line to come in and compete.
Need to somehow get rid of Okposo. - ImThatGuy
So that Larsson or Sobotka can play more? Nah |

And if u think JBotts is gonna get antsy and start trading away top picks/prospects for temporary help you're dead wrong.
We can whine all day about the middle six...but JBotts isn't gonna rush this. - feetontheair22

who is it going to light a fire with??
the berglund chaos left the bottom 9 unphased
pretty sure half of them just need to be purged off the roster |

If they're not gonna play him of D, may as well plug him in as a winger. I don't believe it would hurt his development. We could use his speed |

Sobotka isn't terrible on the third line but ideally hes the 4th line C. Girgensons and Larsson fill their roles on the 4th line. Okposo, Sheary, Pominville and Elie shouldn't be on this roster next year. Thompson and Mittelstadt will continue to improve with time. |

All non-Eichel lines are the 3rd line by ice time.
We don't have a 2nd line, or a 4th line. We have 3 3rd lines (by ice time), who most of the time produce like 4th lines or worse. The distinguishing feature is largely zone starts, but even that has been muddied lately |

doesn't change the struggles all season long with this group
2 guys can change things big time by forcing others down a line
it's frustrating
if they don't want to play casey as second line center, fine use e-rod as a stop gap
thompson-e-rod-nylander, or smith/olofsson-e-rod-thompson
sheary-casey-okposo
girgens-lockport larry-dirty pod racer
at least that gives us a glimmer of hope
this team is near the top of the standings and the lack of change makes me feel they are content to slide into a lottery pick |

For the long-term future of the franchise though would that really be a bad thing ? Getting Skinner signed is the priority. We are not one piece away from winning the cup. I'm sure Botts is just going to let the players in the room decide their fate. Unless a move can be made that helps the team in the present and future that doesn't require us moving any of our first rounders.

"$9.575M which is more than enough to get Skinner re-signed even at the higher end of the projections" what???? Skinner is not even worth over $8 million a year.... We are not signing Laine or picking up Patrick Kane here..... this talk is just NUTS - pwasil7
I think you misread a bit...it's looking like a contract in the $8-9M range (and on that we might disagree)...Skinner's present contract and the relief buffalo got from the Berglund situation equals $9.575M which would be more than enough to cover an extension even if it was for $9M per (which is not what i'm saying he'll get) |

for all the comments on how sam does not raise jack's game over the past few weeks
serious question since sam was drafted as a play maker
why is Jack on a goal tear in recent weeks?
don't give me with his low shooting% it was bound to go up
a play maker coming into his prime is one of jack's wing men, and jack is tearing it up with goals - homiedclown
it was also mentioned on some media outlet that he changed to a stick with less flex on it giving him a little more control...methinks he's got the proper flex in his stick
(have at it boys)

I just cannot tolerate thinking about loosing in any way shape or form anymore, just because it would be better in the future. Just get those thoughts out of your mind. Think about winning as much as possible and when we don't win, that sucks.
I have the same feeling about J. White on WGR. He's constantly defending his open rooting for the tank. Enough already. Stop living in the past when that past sucked. I rooted for the tank too and cheered out loud at Casa di pizza (miss that place) when they secured last place. But it's time to leave that negativity behind.

Seems stupid to consider breaking up that first line, but I don't see any other way to get any secondary scoring. Still think something should be done to get Casey going.
Maybe put Thompson on fist line and Reino on second with Casey and Sheary.
