I think he likes it here and feels like he is one of the leaders.

I think the trade talk will be .

Jim : Do you want a trade
Alex :Do you want to trade me?
Jim :No
Alex :No
Jim :OK
Alex OK.

Pretty much. Also, why would Edler want to leave after 5 miserable years when the team is just getting good again? I mean, trade and re-sign is obviously a win for the Canucks, but it would have to be Tampa/Nashville/Winnipeg IMO to consider a trade (from Eddie's perspective).

Hope you're right

Anyone who gets mad at Edler for not waiving is a jackass

I don't think his contract (if they offer one) will be cheap, Jim seems like a market value (or above) kind of guy. I just hope it's 2 years (or less).

Does Edler want another ntc and how much are those worth?

I had Bishop on the bench Monday (he had a shutout) because I forgot to set the lineup for the week, then I put in Bishop (vs Chicago) instead of Markstrom (vs St Loius).

I guess TO with better right D is a legit contender, but as the player, you want as sure a thing as possible...

The problem with the playoff format is that TO/Tampa and Win/Nash have to go through each other to get to the conference final. Tough second round!

Petey and Boeser have elevated our status which is great to see regardless of wins/losses.

Horvat is flying under the radar of the Petey/Boeser buzz as maybe the most important player on the team...glue guy.

I get Edler's impact to the club currently and the +/- he brings to the club. But (to me) it's time to move on. I like Sutter but he also needs to be shopped at TDL. If we can get some serious value for Edler/Sutter this year and then move Tanev next year before his next major injury we will be sitting great IMO.

'Time to Move On' is when:

- You have a better player as a replacement

- You can't fit that player's next contract into your salary cap structure

- The player doesn't get along with his teammates, the coach, or management

- The player's lack of discipline or commitment is a detriment to the team

- The fans hate the player enough to justify a change

Edler has been a Canuck for a long time but doesn't check any of the boxes for 'time to move on'. Having said that, they desperately need to avoid what happened with Hamhuis and trade Edler for a high-end prospect, a first round pick, or another asset that can get them a first round pick.

This is a make or break draft year for the Canucks. They need to add another forward to complement Petterson, Boeser and Horvat plus a sure thing, top 4 d-man.

I think that's the kind of deal Jim would offer if he is going to offer. Unless they are in on Karlsson, plenty of $ space over the next two years.

In a playoff pool, based on the current standings/rosters, who's your first overall pick?

Best way to increase market value and future earnings in your UFA year is to have a good playoff run. If it's not a certainty that the Canucks are going to offer him an extension, then it's in his best interests to move to a contender at the deadline.

Would you trade Edler for a Dahlen drafted 42 or a Goldobin drafted 27 or a Pouliot drafted eight ?

I would consider trading for a Tofoli or an established good top 6 player but I am not sure about a 25 th over all in a mediocre draft.

I think if he's signing an extension it is to stay in Van for the remainder of his career. I also think $5m is below market value for him. It isn't what I want to happen, just what I think the two sides could agree on. I'm hoping he gets traded to Tampa, wins a cup, likes it there and signs on with them for a few more years.

Edler for Foote and a conditional 2nd (1st is they win the cup).

Horvat, Boeser, Pettersson. Need one more elite forward and can find two complimentary pieces somewhere. Have a few of them already in Goldobin, Virtanen, Leivo.

Progression of young players. Gaudette mainly, valuable experience this year. Even the defence is still growing. Gudbranson and Hutton have never played this well.

Obviously one of the biggest things we need other then some elite players is some better 7-8 D. Biega still signed but a LHD that is better then DP or at least more experienced.

- manvanfan

Agreed. They need two dangerous offensive lines to keep opponents’ top 4 D busy, and then they need their third and fourth lines to be better than most other teams.

They should soon have enough guys in their system that can be complementary players on the top two lines, and guys to play in the bottom six, but they still need that last elite piece.

Plus 2 or 3 more top 4 defense prospects.

You know it is around the corner. I heard years ago the really big money is in Europe. Bettman is a very smart man can you imagine China and Japan also taking an interest?
