Sven is better than Goldy IMO but I still hope they upgrade on both of them . - VANTEL
Neither of those players is going to be able to do enough to help you win in the playoffs. I'm not yet convinced that Leivo is that kind of guy either. Upgrade them all for someone bigger, faster, stronger, more determined.
Virtanen and Gaudette are starting to show signs that they might eventually be effective post-season players, but still a ways to go for both of them. |

Lots of Edler talk from media speculation. I don't think he will waive. When Murph mentioned the other night about most games by a Dman between periods it was the first time I ever seen him smile.
I honestly don't care what he does . As great as a first round pick would be I would not be ill will if he stayed cheap for a little longer . The key word is cheap.
I do believe he would be missed in the beginning but we would get use to it. I do hope they find a better answer but understand if Canucks play it safe.
I think they will move on from Sutter and grow Gaudette. Very nice draft pick and I am sure his point stats will grow.
John Shannon says there is quite a bit of buzz of the Canucks in the East. People want to get a glimpse of the team and mostly Petey. Finally we are being looked at in a positive way. Not bad for a team picked dead last . - VANTEL

You know it is around the corner. I heard years ago the really big money is in Europe. Bettman is a very smart man can you imagine China and Japan also taking an interest? - VANTEL
Bettman is far from stupid when it comes to league revenue...but sacrificing the integrity of the game to get it is another issue altogether.
Wanna have a Euro division? Fine...I get it. But move the 5-10 American teams that Bettman pushes in non-Hockey markets to Europe or to proper Hockey markets. FLA-ARZ-NYI-CAR-NJ have consistently the lowest league attendance average every single calendar year. Move 'em and don't expand yet again to water down the talent pool even more. It's hard enough to build two decent lines in the NHL once we are at 40 teams can you imagine? All one-line Hockey clubs? lol
But ultimately Buttman and his merry band of idiots will do what they want. As long as he's taking care of the top 10-15 American owners for the league he'll have free reign.

Would you trade Edler for a Dahlen drafted 42 or a Goldobin drafted 27 or a Pouliot drafted eight ?
I would consider trading for a Tofoli or an established good top 6 player but I am not sure about a 25 th over all in a mediocre draft. - VANTEL
Based on their recent track record, give this management and scouting group the chance to pick twice in the first round and as high as possible.
I don't trust their ability to evaluate guys who are already pros, make a deal at or below market value, and have those moves improve the team. |

FLA-ARZ-NYI-CAR-NJ may not be working out now but have some of the larger TV audiences. It takes time . You won't grow the game by having teams fill the building in Quebec City or Ottawa.
Having them in the area grows the minor hockey development in the area, and develops players like Auston Matthews (Phx) and Johnny Gaudreau (NJ) . Dallas has an excellent hockey development program and that is a very unusual hockey market. |

I think if he's signing an extension it is to stay in Van for the remainder of his career. I also think $5m is below market value for him. It isn't what I want to happen, just what I think the two sides could agree on. I'm hoping he gets traded to Tampa, wins a cup, likes it there and signs on with them for a few more years.
Edler for Foote and a conditional 2nd (1st is they win the cup). - 1970vintage
Tampa really likes old Canucks D men. First Ohlund, then Salo, Hopefully Edler's next but with a strong trade return rather than as a UFA. |

Hope you're right
Anyone who gets mad at Edler for not waiving is a jackass
I don't think his contract (if they offer one) will be cheap, Jim seems like a market value (or above) kind of guy. I just hope it's 2 years (or less). - 1970vintage

I believe Aqua said it would be a week long series of festivities next year to retire their numbers. It was mentioned in the SN650 radio interview he did a while back, I'm sure you could find it in their archives if you really wanted to. - 1970vintage
