In what universe do you think it makes any sense to pay a 33 yr old d man 5 to 6 mil a year on a multi year deal at the developmental stage this team is at? i disagree, and i appreciate people who want to be Canucks , somewhere like OEL's 6 per is fine and maybe we get him in the low 5's with a limited no trade for an extra year

you also have to assess the player in question , his role and where he fits in the hierarchy of the team , and Edler is a good player , a good team mate , and this team is closer to making strides then many believe imo , so a veteran presence is needed right now as we grow this team into a contender , just saying he is 33 , run for the hills is naive and shortsighted , Chelios played good hockey into his 40's , Hainsey is playing a ton on the Leafs at 37, so ageing is not predictable for everyone the same

I can throw names and contracts up all day too , but stats don't lie . Players are all declining assets after 30. This team does not need more years of Edler at 6 mil per.
