we need to remove some bodies from the roster still
I would like to give bailey one last shot and get nylander up for an extended look before the season ends - homiedclown
Agree on Nylander, mostly cause I think it is now time for rhem to make fheir final evaluation on whether to use the asset for someyhing else (package deal) or to further burn another year of development time.
They do need to cull-back on the number of contracts for sure.
Candidates to unload at the TDL IMO
-Scandella
-Hunwick
-Sobotka
-Pommer
-Okposso, but I think that is an offseason move, not a TDL
If JBotts can unload 2 and Pommer at the TDL, that would be freakin huge

Maybe, I think it is as likely that a couple are used to sweaten the pot in deals to unload a couple vets. |

And in the second half some of them will get that chance. What they will do with it is another question. |

from the Washington game
Pilut teamed up with Ristolainen and those two owned it offensively at 5-on-5 with Pilut at 68.8 percent CorsiFor (22 for, 10 against) and Ristolainen at 66.7 percent (22 for, 11 against). Ristolainen led in time-on-ice at 24:27 just ahead of Dahlin (22:59) and Bogosian (21:15) on defense and they were each above 60 percent at 5-on-5 CorsiFor (Dahlin 64.7; Bogosian 68.6).
...After all, the Capitals have the NHL’s top goal scorer in Alex Ovechkin and while he scored one in regulation and one in the shootout a week ago, he was held to one shot on goal and five total attempts. |

When Beaulieau comes back we'll have 8 healthy d men. Do we send Pilut back? If we do we'll still have 7. Who sits? My guess is they send Larry back and Hunwick would be a healthy scratch. He's not quite up to game shape yet considering his layoff. And I would hate to send Pilut back. When Nelson gets healthy we'll have 9.

I think pilut has earned the right to stay here, but I could see him being stent back for a little bit. Out of all the guys, Nelson, hunwick, scandella are my choices to say bye bye too. Everyone else has played pretty damn good this year. If they could jettison hunwick and/ or scandella that would be a nice savings on the cap, and make room for pilut to come back...

Bogo. Pilut
McCabe, boy-u.
Nelson- Sits
Guhle is in Rochester.
I could live with this defense... they have exceeded my expectations this year and other than bogo they are all going to get better still. Dahlin and pilut have really been huge adds on this team.

we've got 22/23 spots filled, with Pommer, Nelson and Wilson on IR. Bowl will be healthy coming back after christmas, and Wilson and Pommer are skating with the team. Nelson's the only ?, and Pilut is the only one that can be sent down without waivers. But when everyone is fully healthy, there will need to be 2 players on the move.
I don't think Botts in good conscience could send Pilut back. He has too much of an impact on the D. Casey Nelson this year has been your weakest D, and I'm sure there's teams out there looking for a bottom pair guy. Send him, Beaulieu or Scandella. Then again, he's a RD, which seemingly has more value than LDs. Very interesting situation, to be sure.
Edit, Thompson, Mittelstadt and Dahlin can also be sent down, but realistically only Thompson is an option. But Botts has commented a few times that tey want him developing here. |

Keep Hunwick, at least for the sake of the pick. His value is low and he's a solid bottom guy.

Nelson, Bailey and a third for Coyle - Sabres1523
He’s a UFA in a year.
Hasn’t produced in a couple of seasons.
Why must we only trade with Minnesota? |

Ryan O’Reilly had his typical hot start with a new team
First 17 games - Tied for 14th among centers in 5 on 5 scoring
Last 19 games - 47th in 5 on 5 scoring for centers, despite top 10 ice time and playing with Tarasenko and Jaeden Schwartz

Of course we need offense,
but the defense still needs work too
Best player available will probably be a pass rusher, which we do need
There’s no WR worth taking top10
We could trade down i suppose
Idk the actual stats on it,
but it seems that later 1st round WRs tend to bust pretty frequently
It just not a good year to go WR in the 1st - jdfitz77
Wide receiver is the most glaring need on the bills.
It would make our qb much better.
Shaq lawson is finally playing decent.
We need a #1 we, even if we trade down to layer in the first |

If ROR was making $5M instead of $7.5M I wouldn’t have any complaints. But a guy that hardly produces 5v5 while leading the league in ice time while he was here is counterproductive. Guy could win a faceoff and play pretty good defense but I’m not blinking twice now that he isn’t here anymore. |

Agreed on Pilut. He's been very good but he won't be exposed to waivers if he's sent back. He has earned it.
I need to see more of Hunwick to determine his spot here but I can conceivably see him dealt at the deadline, considering where Pilut fits on the D.
I'm not crazy about Beaulieau's defensive game and Nelson has not been very good.

I love that when the Sabres are playing well this board turns to debates over the quality of individual players and those who are no longer part of the franchise.
And personal attacks and insults.
