If Edler waives you have to imagine it's for a TB, or a Nashville - 1970vintage
Doubt he waives for anyone. |

Sorry, we need at least 4 more defensemen, at least 2 more scoring wingers and a bonafide starting goaltender before being competitive again. The current winning streak is nice and unexpected but does not mean that the rebuild is almost over. - Marwood
Fair points of course. But being 'competitive' and still being in a partial rebuild will be a reality for this club for the next 2-3 years. We have seen the signs of improvement in the standings so far this year and another 5 spots up next year will be a realistic step. Where that takes us next year remains to be seen. Not waving the pom poms just reality. This team is improving albeit slowly.
I agree we need more Dman/goalies/wingers before truly contending but remember contending for a cup and being competitive are two very different things. |

elliotte is just sounding a little too specific
if he does waive, maybe Calgary wouldn't need him but could see him going to Edmonton just because it is closer than teams back east, time zones for keeping in touch with family. but being apart from family is still being apart.
guessing he won't even waive so this is all likely moot. and who on here doesn't like to argue? |

I fully appreciate what the Canucks are doing right now, but it truly is hard to imagine the Canucks doing much of anything in the playoffs going up against a team composed of the following top 4 D:
Josi - Ellis
Subban - Ekholm
Morrisey - Trouba
Byfuglien - Myers
Hedman - Strahlman
McDonaugh - Cernak
Not to mention - all of those teams have really good starting goalies. - Codes1087
I have no idea why anyone is even thinking playoffs this year.
Canucks in their last 60 games 25-27-8 . A .500 team , respectable but the team built this year was not meant for the playoffs. In the beginning of the year Benning in an interview skirted around a question about the playoffs because he did not want to say this was suppose to be a tank year. The fact that anyone is mentioning playoffs is a credit to how this team has played.
I will wait for the draft the trades and free agency before I worry about whether we can compete with Nashville or Wpg |

I was hoping to see Edler/Hughes and Juolevi/Tanev next year as a top four, or trade Tanev and sign someone who can play the right side. Re-sign Edler. |

It will likely happen.
MDZ won't be back, maybe Pouliot will be back on another 1 year deal?
I'm not sure about Hutton. Is he worth the raise for the qualifying offer? Can he get much better or he is what we have seen? what is his value at tdl?

I don't think anyone is thinking that. I 100% wasn't thinking that with my post either. We 100% wont be making the playoffs this year, and even with Hughes next year, I highly doubt it. I am simply saying, those teams who are at the top of the league currently, who look poised to go deep into the playoffs, are a pretty good standard for us to look to when building a Canucks team for the playoffs (when the time comes). I think people get a little excited at the fact that we held our own against these teams in the regular season, which is no ease task, but these teams are different beasts in the playoffs with those rosters. |

I admire your optimism, but I don't think we make the playoffs next year either. I think Hughes gives a similar "wow" performance in his rookie season that Pettersson is doing now, I am excited about what Hughes is going to do. Having said that, I think we improve this year from last year in our final standings, improve next year on this year, and maybe by the 2020/2021 we look to make a decent push (if all goes well). |

I think you're one year too soon, maybe the year after, too many holes still and inconsistent goaltending over a full season.
Also I don't know what Vegas team you're watching but they're playing good hockey after a slow start and they've got some really good kids that'll step into their lineup in the next two years. Not to mention their best players are still young, the exception being MAF |

I guarantee you this is what FA wants. Team needs to be sniffing a PO spot for the teams 50th Anniversary season. |

If your team wants a sniff I think you have to keep one or both of Edler and Tanev. You can't just throw Hughes to the wolves. |

Vegas is 5-2-3 in the last 10 . Fluerry is giving up 4 goals in 3 of his 4 games and have blown the lead 3 games of 4 in the last 2 minutes of the third period . I know this because I have Fluery in my pool and he is costing me wins points and stats.
That's the Vegas team I am watching |
