Ideally...
Jack, Mitts & Sam (at Center?)
Skinner is the only “winger” i 100% want
Thompson is young, so I’m ok with him being here. But not if he’s playing with Sobotka or on the 4th line. That’s just dumb
I’ve obviously not been a fan of him as a prospect (average skater, we wanna get faster- and he doesn’t use his size)
But he’s also young & has skill (shot),
so it’s certainly possible he could prove me dead wrong (which would be awesome!)
I’d use Tage as a trade piece though
Okposo- move him, but is that realistic?
Sobotka- fine with him on line4 ONLY
Pommer- on a cheap deal, to play line4, ok
E Rod- liked last year. I wanna see more
Bailey- i still wanna see more
*lets give the other Roch guys a look too
Sheary-
I think could provide some speed & get scoring again if he plays with Jack or Mitts gets going
But i won’t lose sleep if he’s moved
Larsson & Girgs-
I got BLASTED last year when i told everyone they “weren’t actually that bad” and “just needed to be played in the right role- not top9”
Both worth bringing back at current deals unless someone wants to make us an offer worth taking
Wilson- depth forward line4, take or leave
*this leaves us with a lot of line4 guys imo though... so yeah, don’t bring them all back
Look to play a couple Roch guys on line3 with limited icetime & mostly O-Zone starts
Did i forget anyone?
***i want us to go after Stone big time
He can score & is a great defensive forward
Worth the 8mil he’d cost imo
And i do think he & Skinner can fit long term
Use those 1sts to draft forward depth
And don’t pay guys big $$$ unless you’re 100% sure they’re “core” players long term - jdfitz77
pretty much
problem is we only need 3 for the 4th line, not 9 |

from the current roster
how many players do you keep for next year if you could make a bunch go away
IMO it's 5
jack, skinner, skunk, tage and casey
I could care less about every other forward
they are all blah, soft and unable to score - homiedclown
Sad but after those five you listed there is nobody else... and Im still up in the air about Tage... |

1st rounder-Mitts-Olofsson
Nylander-Reinhart-Thompson
D Corps
Dahlin-1st rounder
Pilut-Risto
McCabe-1st rounder
This is an “Ideal” situation so react accordingly. |

World Juniors is my favourite time of year. I always get excited for this tourney. I think its the best hockey to watch. UPL had a huge game last night in pre-tournament play. I'm excited to watch Samuelsson, Laaksonen, Pekar and see how they stack up. - Pegullaville
Laaksonen has been very good this year.

Cap Friendly as of December 20th: "Having cleared unconditional waivers, Patrik Berglund's contract has now been terminated by the Buffalo #Sabres.
Berglund is now an unrestricted free agent free to sign with any club he chooses.
Sabres now have $2,435,913 in projected cap space with a roster of 22" (13F/7D/2G)
And with Berglund coming off the books saved us $2.2M this year so at one point we did have 200K of cap space so suck it - Pegullaville
I still can't believe he walked away from all of that money.

Me neither. If he wanted to be a second line player, he could have with more effort. If he wanted to coast, he could have played with Gus and Larry. It will never make sense to me |

I would substitute McCabe for Guhle.
This is not a McCabe slant as I do like him but I just can’t see him being here on the third pair after a decent raise, and if he’s playing top 4 minutes for us in the playoffs I think he can ask for anywhere from 3-4 mil.
I really think Pilut/Dahlin have those top 4 spots on lock |

I read someting that says Berglund has 60 days.
So the fat lady hasn't even been scheduled to sing yet. |

not sure that's very realistic given where those first rounders are going to be picked. IF we hit on three of the four we are doing really good. I hope they can bring in at least one forward Via a trade.... that roster would take 4 years (at least) for us to be considered true contenders. |

I read a few comments from former players Oskar Sundqvist and TJ Oshie that they seemed genuinely concerned for Berglund and there might have been some personal issues going on. Strange. |

The forward group is a tough one to predict if you are looking out to 2021-22 for example. In think you could see Skinner-Eichel-Reinhart as a line and young guys like Mitts, Olofsson, Tage, Asplund, Nylander in the other lines. The picks are tough to gage who we get and this year both our pick and the SJ pick could be in the 20's.
I see the D group to be Dahlin, Risto, Pilut, McCabe, Samuelsson and possibly even Borgen with a vet in there somewhere. |

I think Reinhart can really thrive in the “Kadri” role so to speak. Obviously we don’t the luxury just yet to run Jack, Mitts, Sam down the middle but it would be nice to see. Maybe one of the first rounders ends up as the 3C and Rhino is Jack or Mitts permanent RW. Either works with me. |

After going off on him last blog, I would keep Tage into next TDL.
That said, he needs to show significant improvement
-add alot of m scle and strength
-skating, edge-work and quick turns/change of direction.
-faster release

Agreed here, but Mitts struggles the same way.
He got pick pocketed last game where any NHL vet would have known someone would be behind him.
They need to think a bit faster. It will come |

I think that’s fair
Gotta hit on 3 outta 4 of those 1sts
Might be a lot to ask,
so it might make sense to use a 1st and a guy u don’t project in our lineup (Guhle, CjSmith, etc) to fill one of those slots
Or maybe fill a slot with the right UFA
