I was pretty happy with the Beagle signing. He was a favourite in Washington, even if it was to their determent when he was getting minutes over OV. Guy's a 4th line hero. And we were so poop on the faceoffs last year, sometimes you just need to pay for the guy with the skill set you need.

I'm not sure that's fair. The kid is exceptional at breaking into the zone, opening up the ice and dishing the puck, as evidenced by his number of assists. Hes a perfect example of a complimentary piece with great playmaking abilities on a line with two elite shooters.

Unlike other 'third wheels' (Nylander for example), we can probably extend him on a relatively cheap contract where he can put up 40 to 60 pts a season...aka a prototypical second line winger.

The fact that we got him at the deadline for scraps is awesome.

Oilers fans still complaining about the 5 PP we got last game in their thread... they should worry about being passed by the Canucks in the standings.

Complaining about the refs can go one of two ways, help or hinder you and 90% of the time the refs get offended by being chastised. With Kesler/Burrows/Vignault here constantly crying about the refs it never put us in their good graces for almost ten years.

Well, you aren't 'technically' wrong but most clubs have a Goldy in their lineup. A player who has massive offensive upside when playing with the right line mates and not much of a defensive player. I think it's too soon to give up on him yet.

I get the argument that some guys can be on a line with two other elite players and benefit from it, obviously that happens. But that's just not the case with Goldy. He's a talented playmaker and no amount of blind hate is gonna change that fact. Look when Leivo played with BB and EP, he had 1 assist in 10 games.

Leivo had a different role on that line, being the cornerman/net front presence against the bigger and stronger teams and could be relied upon to play at both ends of the ice, hence why he played 15-16 minutes per game on that line, unlike Nikki, who has to have his icetime reduced when the team is holding onto a lead.

He has 10 of his 23 points without EP/BB so no he isn't ineffective. He produces the majority of his pts at Even Strength as well. I agree Goldy has to keep improving in his own end and be more aggressive overall, but I don't think every team has an entire lineup that does that - Thats not how teams are constructed. Last night Virtanen and Gaudette were on the ice in the last 3 minutes with EDM goalie pulled - that shows trust from Green and growth from both those guys - remember last year when Jake would be on the bench for most of the 3rd? If Green can get those guys to buy in I dont see why Goldy can't.
