It is not only Pettersson though. There is a list of improvements that have been mentioned.

When Petey was out we went 3-3 a 500 club, exactly where we are now.

So true. Beagle is the core reason for the season successes so far. Can't believe beginning managed to drive home such a bargain contract for him.

it's like the punchline of a joke - how many 1st Overall picks does it take to re-build the Oilers ?
- onesmallleap

Now they are talking about tanking to get a high pick

Ri be fair, marwood has consistently said to wait for January before celebrating.
- Pres.cup

But if we do that we may never get to celebrate.

People just need to put out of their minds they were so poorly mismanaged for much of the past decade. As I just said, they’ve got some great young building blocks and they’re essentially starting over again because Chiarelli screwed up so bad his first two years there.

The best thing that could happen there is for them to miss the playoffs and Chiarelli fired.

I hear the chemistry of the team is really close on and off the ice . I hear they really enjoy fighting for one another, I stand corrected , they like fighting withone another.

their manager wants/needs to make the playoffs or he’s gonna be fired. No one that runs the team wants to tank.

I know, they’ve got about as much a chance as the Canucks do, which is pretty slim. Chiarelli will be canned by spring.

I just hope they don't somehow convince Yzerman to take over

Welllllll we do have a good'ol alberta boy, 3rd line centre for the playoff run , and we could throw in an Elite Defensive puck-mover

I believe I read his family lives in Detroit still and that was the major reason for him stepping down. I don’t see him taking any GM job except in Detroit.

Flyers are a one line team and Provorov and Gostisbehere are having off years. They should’ve changed the coach sooner.

Through 40 games last year the Canucks were 16-19-5 for 37 points. This year through 40 games they’re 18-18-4 for 40 points. It just feels like they’re so much better but the reality is they’re only slightly better to this point.

Oilers are a young team, I know they’ve been mismanaged for so long but they’ll be fine if they get a proper GM. McDavid is 21, Draisaitl is 22, RNH is 25, Nurse is 23, Klefbom is 25, Puljujarvi is 20, Yamamoto is 19, they’re basically starting over again.
- LeftCoaster

Teams starting over aren’t paying 21 million for two players. Pretty tough to manage a cap around that if you’re starting over and have as many holes as they do.

To be fair, Sutter and Edler would seriously help that team.

Sutter and Eagle for a 2019 1st and Pulujarvi.
