WILL THE SABRES TRY TO ADD SCORING?
THE BUFFALO NEWS: Mike Harrington recently observed the Sabres are running on fumes offensively of late and wondered if GM Jason Botterill will attempt to address that need soon. He believes Botterill is trying to find help but rival GMs are reluctant to make significant deals right now. The Sabres could use an experienced second-line center. Options could include Jeff Carter of the Los Angeles Kings, Brayden Schenn of the St. Louis Blues and Charlie Coyle of the Minnesota Wild but they won’t come cheap.
SPECTOR’S NOTE: Carter could be unwilling to accept a trade to Buffalo and retire, leaving the Kings with an annual salary-cap recapture penalty for the next three seasons. The asking price for Schenn or Coyle could be a promising young Sabre such as Casey Mittelstadt. |

I’d be generally reluctant - for this team - to trade a promising 1st year pro for a established vet. In this instance, id give it more thought because nobody can tell what the future for mittlestat might be.
On the other hand, those no reason to think Coyle would get anywhere trying to drive that line, either |

I feel we are more then 1 piece away from making a run, so stand pat and sell sell sell
if rochester can get us the bump to hold on to a wild card spot, great
if not, viva 2020 |

I’d be surprised if it would cost us CM to acquire coyle, he’s only topped 50 points or 20 goals once and currently has only 18 points this season.

This is a situation where finding a solution externally would be a rushed decision. This is a situation where we see how important a healthy lineup is. This is a situation where it exposes his valuable Nelson is....Anyone else hungry for Nachos?? |

There is no way in hell that either one of those players are worth Casey. A first rounder and a b prospect sure. |

Beane on the offseason cap space:
"I think it would be careless to say that I need to certain positions in free agency, because they might not be upgrades. It's not about having to spend it, it's about having it to be smart with. In my perfect world, we draft, and we sign our own. We'll be selective and smart."
how did murphy, mccarron, davis, newhouse, bodine, ivory and star work out? - homiedclown
-Murphy; C, hopefully he stays healthy next season and adds value
-mccarron; D-, was a head scratcher at the time of the signing and went downhill from there...BUT they did get a 5th rounder for free...moves the final grade up from E
-davis; E, he sucked and he knew it...provided high entertainment value with jus quitting at halftime of a game...priceless
-newhouse, meh
- bodine; C-, he did start, but we wish he didn't
-ivory; B, made the most of his playing time
-and star, C, one could argue a lower grade and I wouldnt fight back.
Overall...probably a C- to D+ |

Those guys have no (frank)ing clue, if he’s smart he won’t sign one f/a. Because when he does it’s wrong.

2018 draft turned out alright though
-Allen; B, NotReady showed considerable development once an experienced QB arrived to mentor him. He came a very long way, still a long way to go, but showing promise
-Edmunds; B, very young and also showed considerable development...could be an absolute stud for the next 8-10 years
-Phillips; B-, limited time in a rotation role, but played well enough to point to good things in the future
-Johnson, B+, got hurt, but showed well in his time on the field. Could really help the defensive backfield with more experience
-Neal, ? C- maybe, not sure how to rate him tbh
-Teller, C, but with more time he could be a decent starter...needs more time /development...could eventually go to a B
-Ray/Ray, for a 6th rounder...probably a C, middle grade. Using the same name twice is cause alone for a C rating
-Proehl, meh? |

Bwhahaha. Casey for that.... not a chance.
There’s no help coming this year, either from Rochester or trade. The kids in Rochester are not ready, and he’s not giving up a first round pick for the poop listed above ( if he does he should be fired).
