Woof. That is not the news I want to hear Bill. - hereticpride
Maybe not, but it's truthfully how I see it unfolding unless there is a bidding war and Simmonds is generous in his whom he'd exclude from his partial no-trade protection. |

We flat out can't afford to trade D men. - hereticpride
I get it, I was thinking if Sanheim and Myers are legit 1 or 2 pair defense, then we should try to bring in elite talent for potential. We can always go FA too.

The Flyers played like they were wrestlers outside of the ring in a lumberjack match.

1) No. Would much rather have Jones.
2) I would not. Flyers could build a forward corps that could win. Down season from Provorov aside, they could not take yet another step backwards atop the blueline. - bmeltzer
Understood, thanks for the reply.

Expansion draft could change the calculus somewhat. Can only protect so many D. |

We're just unfortunately too far away from knowing Sanhiem and Myers will be those guys.
Right now I can't see us dealing Provy, Ghost or Sanhiem unless a stud D man is coming the other way.
I think a major move is going to have to involve Simmonds, Jake, prospects or picks. Maybe, maybe Patrick, but that is going to have to be a move to land a legit top shelf player. |

Sanheim right now is being used in a role he really shouldn't be in at this point in his career. He's holding his own. I'm really confident that Sanheim is going to be a legitimate top 4 puck mover if not top pairing.

It would be a tough, tough deal to make....I look at what NJ did to get Hall. I can agree the Flyers D at this point can’t afford to take that hit, your losing a 26 minute d man. But how often do you get a chance at a young star as talented as Marner ? If the Flyers want that type of player....the payment would hurt.

Questions I have:
1. When do the Flyers remove the “interim” tag from Gordon? Either remove it or move on from him. Granted, he’s doing his best with what he inherited, but there needs to be stability in this facet of the operation.
2. Why does Ian Laperriere still have a job?
3. While I don’t believe Fletcher’s been sitting on his hands since his hire, why hasn’t there been as much as a cursory move (re: trade) to get the players’ attention? We’re all pretty much in agreement on these boards that Simmonds and Jake should be dealt (like a month or more ago)...is Fletcher actively shopping these two? If not, he should be, IMO. Move one or both to a team that’s on the cusp of a playoff spot (FLA, MIN, EDM come to mind).
4. Why - after 40-plus years as a diehard Flyers fan - do I feel as though we’re never going to see this team raise another Stanley Cup? |

As well if the Flyers ever made Provy available the return would be sick.....I do wonder if his contract situation would play into a trade....although he will only be an RFA.

I get that Toronto have a LEGIT run this year for the 1st time in a while And he does make them prohibitively better,
If they think he will get offer sheeted & there is a threat they just get those picks (especially if Marner makes the other team bottom of 1st round good....)
How can they pay all of Tavares Mathews and Marner? |

So much in agreement. Our injuries haven't been that devastating. Expectations were higher. We have a ton of talent. Its infuriating to see us this bad. Change in coach only seemed to give us a temporary spark. This roster needs a major shake up. It could be one big move that does it but we simply don't work as is. - Tfaehner
To be fair, not having a bonifide NHL goalie is a pretty big deal. I’ve never seen so many goalie injuries |

No, I like his story, he is great at making you focus on fundamentals, and I think there may be some weird Kaepernick type issue keeping him out of the NHL. |

1) to early to tell.
2) maybe not much longer.
3) he probably is trying very hard....he still trying to figure out what he has in the way of assets and their value.
4) I like the talent....I think they can make some big strides in the coming years. They have the assets to make some moves, so we will see. Teams fortunes can change quickly in today’s NHL.

I remember when he couldn’t get a job after really doing a great job. I guess he was a tad outspoken and scared away some teams that considered him.

At the end of the season Fletcher will evaluate and likely hire another coach.
2. Why does Ian Laperriere still have a job?
- BroadSTmayhem
There is certainly cause to make a change but he's still here because he is not the issue. Last night is a perfect example. They didn't get scored on but the Flyers defaulted to being passive again last night on the PK. Were they coached to do so? Before that they had a good stretch where they had a nice balance of pressure and contain on the PK.
3. While I don’t believe Fletcher’s been sitting on his hands since his hire, why hasn’t there been as much as a cursory move (re: trade) to get the players’ attention? Making a deal just to make a deal is window dressing. The market for Simmonds is going to widen the closer they get to the deadline. Voracek is not the kind of player that would likely be trade during the season. His contract limits the market. |

Add Reilly, Gardner, kapanen to the list. Plus you have Marleau at 6 plus next year.....things will get tight. |

Flyers may not be able to get a guaranteed first-rounder for Simmonds. I suspect it will be more along the lines of a conditional 1st-round (2019) and 2nd round (2020) pick with the condition being something along the lines that the default return is a 2nd (2019) and 3rd round (2020) pick but if the team to whom he's traded reaches the Stanley Cup Finals, the return elevates to 1st and 2nd rounders. - bmeltzer

Would you consider the Jones for Johansson a good deal for both teams?
Would anyone consider Provorov for Marner? - DrMidnite
No. The difference between the us and the CBJ\NSH trade is we have no one to fill provorovs role if dealt. The problem with the team is:
Simmonds, JVR, Voracek are one dimensional
Patrick and Konecny are not living up to the expectations we had for this season. Neither looks like they till touch the 60 point mark they would be lucky to hit the 50 point mark.
This is most our TOP 6! The biggest problems right now is puck management and defensive awareness. Last night added bad goaltending back to the mix. |

Or the fact that he just wasn't a good coach is what has kept him out of the NHL. |

I would add the Ghost and Provy aren't living up to expectations. No coach will look good with all that going on. |

Yup..
Patrick, TK, Provy, Ghost stagnated.
Lindblom is a no factor.
Of the young players Sanheim is the only one playing solid at this point. |
