After awhile just getting into the playoffs shouldn't be good enough. If this currently roster's max potential is a first or second round exit, time to stripping away at it and start over trying to build a Cup contender. |

so, i guess they don't want to play for this coach either? what a pathetic effort last night. they can't trade their way out of this either. i honestly don't know what their problem is or how to fix it. but i do know they are absolutely wasting Giroux's career. i feel bad for the guy. |

Or the fact that he just wasn't a good coach is what has kept him out of the NHL. - opeth_pa
How can you say that when he won the Jack Adams award in one of his 6 years as an NHL coach? Hasek or not, not every coach that has the best goalie wins that award.
From everything I've read, it was mainly interpersonal issues, not his ability to maximize performance from the mostly awful teams he had.
Doesn't mean he couldn't be someone to do just that with this team.

Maybe not, but it's truthfully how I see it unfolding unless there is a bidding war and Simmonds is generous in his whom he'd exclude from his partial no-trade protection. - bmeltzer
I think, maybe, a team with multiple firsts like Buffalo might be willing to part with one for a guy like Simmonds, especially if they think a rival like Boston or Toronto might also have interest. Buffalo would reserve the right to choose which of their firsts to give up and, if need be and I’m the Flyers, I’d be willing to sweeten the deal by adding in one of our 3rd rounders.
That’s about the best you can expect for a guy like Simmonds. |

Absolutely, G has given a lot to this city. Would be interesting to toy with the idea of trading him to a contender out of courtesy and a planned rebuild. |

Yup..
Patrick, TK, Provy, Ghost stagnated.
Lindblom is a no factor.
Of the young players Sanheim is the only one playing solid at this point. - opeth_pa
To be fair Sanheim also has lower expectations than the ones you listed being a rookie. If this was his 2nd or 3rd season with the same amount of turnovers and limited offense being generated he would be included in your group. Will Sanheim get better and improve, well that is the hope of everyone. Main point being everyone has to be better, it is that simple. |

Because there are too many .And still they need a Nr.1 dman.
Provorov can be a top pair dman again next year .But Ghost never should be on a top pair.Plus they are lacking a right-hand shooting dman better then Gudas |
|
|
|
Individually, I hope each player spends sometime today looking in the mirror at their own play and what they can do within their role to help the team succeed. New year...may not be a new season but it can be a time for change, to put your best foot forward, before the trade deadline and the reminder of the season.

And the Flyers management told Carter they wouldn't trade him less than 48 hours before they traded him. |

No thanks. Myers is a right handed shot. If you trade away one of these kids it's going to be a huge issue trying to replace them. Remember 5 years ago when it was impossible to trade for one?
They can move a forward for D, draft one or go UFA. They don't need to part with their core D pieces to do it. |

Would you consider the Jones for Johansson a good deal for both teams?
Would anyone consider Provorov for Marner? - DrMidnite
No I won't trade Provorov. |

For sure, I totally understand and appreciate your sentiment here. But the reality is these are professional athletes, all of whom should be “looking in the mirror” each and every day. I doubt the change of calendar is going to make these guys more reflective. They’ve already sh*t the bed too many times this season. They need only look at the standings to grasp the depths to which they’ve dropped.
Good God...what in the world happened to this once proud franchise? |

Just looking at the young players obviously Provorov, Gostisbehere, Sanheim and I believe Myers will be also.
