I could see risto for pk88 this summer.
Obviously more players or $ involved
Risto is a tough guy to replace. - Boss34
26 will be the guy playing 28 minutes a night soon.
And they haven't meshed well on the same pair so far |

It's an upgrade from a position of strength to an area of weakness - sbroads24
Sure, but that was the rationale behind the Hall/Larsson deal too. Just because you have strength in an area doesn't mean you have to overpay. |

That trade wasn't just an overpayment
It was a pure fleecing and probably the most lop-sided trade since Hasek for Kozlov |

Unless you are Winnipeg or Nashville every single team in the NHL could use a top 4 RHD. They are a valuable commodity. Risto’s cap hit looks better and better every year too. I’d rather pay him $5.4M then Gardiner $6M+. Heck Gardiner might even fetch closer to $7M in the open market. |

Games like last night are a perfect example of why we need more high end players. You get those at the top of the draft and we aren’t getting a Tavares gift wrapped to us in FA. 5 years from now we won’t remember a one and done playoff series, but we will have a player that could help us be in the cup discussion year after year. ESPN’s player poll this offseason had quotes of players thinking that we could be the best team in the NHL 5 years from now and had us as the surprise playoff team. Even if we flounder this year I’m sure players know what we have brewing here. - Pegullaville
Even if we pick top10...
You’re acting like we will definitely get high impact player
No one picked around 10 in last year’s draft is doing anything yet
Even Mitts, picked 2 years ago is struggling
Heck,
we could just as easily get a Nylander who we are still unsure about 3 years later
Let’s make the playoffs & still have a chance to draft & develop a player picked around 18th into a good one
Even the difference between 8 & 18 isn’t as big sometimes as you’d think
*i haven’t done a ton of research on this draft yet to know where the prospect groupings are though

And the Bruins dominated with Chara and Seidenberg playing almost the entire game. And Risto is better than Seidenberg. |

I was just illustrating just because you have strength in one area doesn't mean you have to overpay. And d-men being more valuable, you get the other team to overpay when they're buying d-men. |

I agree with your earlier post about risto being an offensive defenseman that hits.
Thing is:
He is on pace for 50 points and we lack scoring bigtime
He is leading the league in hits. We lack toughness
He is leading the team in blocked shots
He plays half the game. Dahlin can play half as well
He is probably well desired among gms |

Panarin is that kind of impact player, even though it seems all reports indicate he wants the bright lights and big city.
Stone isn't Panarin, but he's damn good and would definitely fill a position of need. - kingcong39

That’s totally fair. At the end of the day he has to reach the potential. I can see why Botts wanted him included in the ROR deal though. I’d like to see what he could do with an actual 2nd line C. - Pegullaville

I'm all on board now trying some form of the following:
Sheary - Eichel - Thompson
Skinner - Mittelstadt - Reinhart |

We don't need another Sam Reinhart on this team unless we're trading him.
And I'm not in the "trade Reinhart" camp.
I'm just also not in the "Pay Reinhart $7.5 million dollars because he can put up points only when playing RW for Eichel" camp.
RNH only has 2 years left on his deal and he will ask for basically the same as Reinhart. Unless you're trading Reinhart, it makes absolutely no sense to bring in RNH, and it makes no sense to trade Reinhart just to bring in RNH. - BeadyEyedDouche
RNH would be one of the better 2C's for he next couple years while Mitts developes here or in Roch.
In another year or 2 if necessary Mitts is then ready for full time 2C.
Puting up 36 points this year between Lucic and Puljujarvi is quite the feat...he is driving ghat line, not complimenting it.
But whatever.
