I've never left the Hextall bandwagon, but signing JVR was a mistake.

He's never been anything more than a pure offensive weapon. Defense-optional, effort-optional. Every so often he gets fired up and uses all his tools, but it's exceedingly rare. He's not really a guy you win with, you win in spite of him.

I agree on JVR. I wonder if there is anything to the pressure that Hextall was receiving that led him to go after JVR? He lost out on Taveras, which he never really had a shot with and Stastny.

It’s gone completely off the rails. They’ve already fired the coach, the only option left is to change some of the players. There certainly is no one magic move that will save this season. The hole that they’ve dug for themselves is simply too deep.
- BiggE

Agreed! Which is why I don’t want them to make moves just for the sake of changing the chemistry. Most moves by GM’s seem to be made close to the deadline, and at the draft. This though, it seems like many GM’s see their teams as close, and may be willing to pull the trigger earlier than usual. If that’s the case, and there is a long term solution, then I’d like to see it happen, just don’t make short term decisions. As you said, this season is done for the Flyers. I just don’t want a dumb move in panic.

Enjoyed your post as response to Jay Greenberg’s column. I wrote almost the same thing in my earlier post, just not as long. I guess us longer term fans remember the NHL’s best period....in between the old goons and the I don’t give a poop millionaires of today. That really was the sweet spot.....guys who could skate, score, gave it all, and break your jaw. Those were good times!👍

Too bad he couldn't just try JVR once a year, on his birthday.

Or he signed him as a hedge against losing Simmonds.

I don't think I heard Frost's name ONCE in overtime. Terrible decision by Tim Hunter if that's the case. Team leader in pts... nah, he shouldn't play.

Hunters love affair with his captain....conmquat....nice back check. Goal on him...frost on bench for entire OT.....then he picked the guy as one of his top 3....stupid coaching....

So since we are a bottom dweller trying to focus on some the top prospects.

Hughes. Serious skill. But I see a lot of deficiencies in his game. I dont think he will be NHL ready at least at center from the time hes drafted. And I worry about him defensively.

Kaapo played solid inglorious hockey. Didnt make the wow plays but was consistent and rarely out.

Podkolzin. Kid is fierce man. Aggresive strong. Attacks in the offensive zone. Good puck and body control. Just seems like a guy who brings it every night. One of Russia's best this tournament.

Kind of confused did dach not get picked for team Canada? And if so why in the world not?

It’s always the same....they produce so many good kids, they can do poop and still win....but the rest of the world is catching up...I love watching this tourney. Hadn’t heard many good things about Samuel Ersson, the Swedish goalie drafted by the Flyers....he looked really good. A couple years ago it was Vorobiev ....Fabaree looks fantastic as well this year as does Cates...Frost also was fantastic.

Have not been in much this season. Almost bought tix for the Nashville game yesterday for me and the two kiddos but given the season I couldn't quite get up for shelling out $300+ for tix and then driving 3 and a quarter hours from Lexington KY to Nashville, to probably see them lose. They made my judgement look downright stellar. Savvy even. I'd have been pissed if I'd gone that way and then they couldn't even pot one.

This will be the first year in a long while I have not made a Flyers game in either Nashville or Columbus, but I am Ok sitting this one out.

Hopefully they can be competitive going forward. This ain't as bad as '06-'07 but it is pretty lousy.

Happy New Year folks.

Whether they win or lose doesnt matter. As long as they play an entertaining game. I personally like seeing some of the other stars in the NHL. I would have loved to see Arviddsson,Subban and Forsberg(I know he's hurt) play but yea thats a long way to travel and a lot to pay.

For a length that long, it has to be a trip planned in advance IMO. When I did it, we wnt to PHI to see them play Isles(My Uncles team). Saturday we stopped in NJ, got hotel and spent the day in New York City, Sunday afternoon we watched PHI play Devils and IF we planned out trip better we could have gotten to see Leafs@PIT or OTT@NYR Sunday evening

Was a good Weekend despite Flyers losing both games. Got to see Peter Forsberg and Gagne live

Oh I had the game circled on the calendar for a while. I just held off on getting tix. I don't really mind a 3 hour drive...I'm a Deadhead so hauling off and hitting the road for an event is in my bones. Their record wasn't the only thing that held me back...I spent the holidays sick from Christmas Eve until Sunday 12/30. Some flu-like crap kicked my ass. Then once I was on my feet I dug a grave for our 13 year old dog who passed on Sunday. Just wasn't meant to be this year. Saving up for next year's playoff run!!!

Your trip sounds like it was fun!
