A bad mix of players is a GM issue.

Yep. Neither is a "pure goal scorer" imho. Giroux, however, contributes in many other ways that JVR simply does not and cannot. G creates goals for others. G is a great two-way player. JVR is neither.
- Scoob

I know but JVR was never called or viewed as a player who creates goals/chances nor known for his 2 way play; he’s a finisher. This was known when we signed him and even during his time with Toronto. He’s paid to score goals and he’s been a consistent goal scorer for years. He’s just having a rough season, but outside of Giroux, who isn’t on this team? I think JVR would have more goals if our PP was actually producing and if he had a consistent center to play with.

I agree with you though I'm not a big fan of JVR.

Great, so trade JVR to a team that can utilize his unique skill set and get something back that can help the Flyers because JVR is useless on and to this team. He's a complimentary player, not a player you build around.

I keep G, Hart, Coots, Provy, Sanheim, TK, and Hagg. The others should all be on the block for the best you can get. V, Simmonds and Ghost should get a decent return. There is really nobody else on the team that cannot be easily replaced . They are all bottom 6 and lower D men on a good team
- Djapana

I know it's just wording, but I would not trade Ghost for a "decent return." To move Ghost, I would have to get an offer that is impossible to turn down (top-10 defenseman or top-line forward +).

I’m not the biggest fan either, but I understand his struggles. Hes predominately been with Weal (isn’t good) or Patrick (struggling himself) as his center and Wayne Simmonds has been his most used co-winger who is also having a rough season. Add in the terrible PP and here we are. I said this last night, and SSB has preached it some, but I would go top heavy for a few games to try to get both JVR and Jake going and have JVR-G-Jake. Or have TK at 1RW.

And Once Patrick is back id like to see the line of him with Lindblom and Jake again as they had good chemistry imo

JVR can still help this team moving forward with his goal scoring ability. He was never signed as a player to build around, he was supposed to compliment the already established core of forwards of G, Couts, TK, Jake and be a solid replacement for Simmonds if/when traded.

That doesnt excuse anything. He built a poor product. He overrelied on youth, didnt fill holes on team and he signed jvr who isnt the type of player we need.

JVR has a .33 career goal/game compared to Giroux’s .29. And typically is above the suggested .326; yes he’s below this year but I’m sure 80% of our team is below their average goals/game. You can’t just use this season, a season which JVR missed a chunk of time, to label who a player is over his career. I would also say most “pure goal scorers” aren’t Ppg players since they aren’t the playmakers or more well rounded like someone like Giroux.
- arichardson22

The Flyers as awhole are having a disappointing season. Most of what I’ve had over the course of a couple months has been an overreaction.

Ownership and management could choose to blow it all up, like most of you suggest every time this team drops the ball, it doesn’t mean what we get in return will automatically make this team better.

The story of JvR hasn’t played out yet. Of course he needs to be better but he’s had a rough season due to injury. Dale Weise and Andrew MacDonald are two examples of bad signings.

I disagree. He put a team on the ice that should be challenging for a playoff spot. You yourself posted time and again that they were going to make the playoffs. This team is woefully underachieving. JVR was a goal scoring winger. That was a need on this team. Especially on the left side.

I agree, he’s only played 23 games into his new contract. Plenty of time to turn it around. Do you see a lot of people calling Nylander’s 6.9M caphit a terrible signing with his 2 points in 11 games on a surging Maple Leafs team?

What are you talking about? We were weak on the Left side prior to the JvR signing and desperately needed a pure scorer.

Some people are speaking with the benefit of hindsight right now. For example the disappointment of JvR’s play. Many even wanted to trade anything to get Nylander. Nylander was always a bad signing. He’s young, far from elite and the Leafs bought into undeserved demands.

True they should be, just a very fragile team. Goalie doesn’t solve the issue. Of goalie, D and C3, I think goalie is least important.

It's tough to watch the Flyers right now. Changes must be made. Except for a miracle, this season is over. Time for Fletcher to make some moves.

JVR is invisible on the ice. No effort all from him. He was a young, lazy player when we drafted him and now he's an expensive, lazy player that doesn't bother to play defense.

If I had a nickle for every time the announcers said that the Flyers shot missed the net, I would be a billionaire. Does Ghost need glasses, because he can't get the puck near the net this season?

Rawful should never be on the 1st or 2nd lines.

Sorry for the rant, but watching the Flyers is driving me crazy.....

I think Voracek for Stone/Panarin, Simmonds for Picks, and Ghost for picks/high level prospects. Resign Raffl and Laughton. Bury Weise and MacDonald.

You still have enough players to make 2 elite lines : Giroux, JVR, Panarin/Stone, Patrick, Couturier, Konecny.

Then maybe you get 2 from some of your farm teams that can play with Lindblom... Frost, Allison, Rubstov, Ratcliffe, Voroybov, Twarynski, Kase, Aube-Kubel, O'Neil, Farabee. Plus whatever young prospects you get on the Ghost deal.

Then sign a 4th line that can play a grinding shut down hockey style.

Defense: Provorov, Sanheim, Gudas, Hagg,

I would think one of Morin, Myers, and Freidman would be able to fill a 5th/6th if not multiple. And you sign or trade for one more....

Goaltending: If Elliot comes back and stays healthy resign him for 2 more years and Hart splits time with him.

This could be a very fast turn-around.

Nylander can do 50/60 points per season so clearly only slightly paid too much
