An employee violates the rules and has to suffer consequences as were set forth???
Say it ain't so! - jmatchett383
It's all about Bettman's NHL controlling hockey. If they really wanted to grow the game the players should have been in the Olympics. But nope they weren't getting their way so the NHL players couldn't go. Now the whole charade that if you don't go to the ASG you get a one game suspension is a joke. |

Exactly. I dont think ovi or anyone else cares about the 1 game suspension. And honestly I hope more players do it. |

I'm pretty sure the suspension rule has been round for awhile. They didn't just make it up for Ovi. |

It started when Sid kept saying I can't go because of lame excuse injury that really was a hope to get out of going so the league said you miss a game before or after the ASG if you don't go.
Now Ovi gets to choose to miss a road game against Toronto or a home game against Calgary. I'd choose Toronto if I was him and not travel with the team. |

We are aware. But the players made a heart felt plea to keep the Olympics. Owners didnt care. It's all about money for them and they dont care about the players. So ovi saying well than idc about your all star game money grab as a captain and leading vote getter is big. Just shows the further divide between owners and players. |

Is Betteman's job to grow the game of hockey or to grow the NHL?

At least 6 of those franchises can barely sell tickets as it is. |

Sure and I anticipated that answer but since that's not what he gets paid for his first priority is to the NHL rather than something outside such as the Olympics |

Nice quote from Trotz in Friedman’s 31 thoughts:
“I’m a builder, I saw this (team) as a great challenge. I told them I just experienced winning a championship, and I waned them to have that same experience. The way you do that is you play as a team, with accountability, structure and work ethic. We told them defence can be fixed, if you are willing to sacrifice the cheating in your game. All the guys bought in.”
We could have used this lol. |

Part of being in charge is having happy employees and growing your business. If your industry grows and your the best company in your industry what happens to your company ? Second owners have long taken and taken from the players. How many more lock outs do we need before the owners realize they have to be more willing to negotiate ? |

Unfortunately they only count people who bought tickets not people who attend games so we are still top 10. |

Sure when he has top level talent to do the work for him. Om sure things are a little harsher due to poor play of the team but right now hes just a scrub. He doesnt look good on the rush, doesnt manage the puck well and loses battles regularly. He's basically Simmonds except soft and we can understand what he says in interviews - xShoot4WarAmpsx
It’s a team sport. Every player has their strengths and weaknesses. What are your expectations for each player on a team? All must have the same high end skill that Giroux has? This isn’t realistic. Making any comment about how Simmonds speaks is ignorant in itself. |

While I don't agree with the NHL, they were under no obligation to let their employees go to an IIHF-sanctioned tournament at the NHL's expense. The rules of the NHL state that, if you miss the ASG without an injury, you are suspended one game.
Not a big deal and again, I don't agree with the NHL. But, as a private business, those are the rules. If the players don't like it, they don't have to be NHL players. |

I have no problem with the suspension. Especially since it was the Crosby rule after he got away with it for years. I hope more players sit the all star game. |

What do NHL players have to be unhappy about? The reason there is a salary cap and there have been lockouts were because the players were getting upwards of 70% of the revenue being taken in. I think you have that part backwards.

Don't think they'd get Kapanen or Nylander right now. Could probably grab one of Liljegren or Sandin, though. - jmatchett383
Liljegren would be a heist that I'd welcome. |

I think it’s a pipe dream to think that Voracek is going to get you Panarin and Stone. Flyers would be lucky to get Stone via a Jake trade. Panarin is an elite player...1st round pick-plus worthy, IMO. - BroadSTmayhem
It wasnt a "and" statement. And yes Jake could get you Stone plus considering Stone is on an expiring contract. Same with Panarin. Panarin will not sign in Columbus. They could take a 1st round pick that would be in the mid 20s and some other considerations, or they could take a 80 point a season player for the next 7 years.
There are deals out there that are not just trade Jake for a bunch of picks.... Doesnt have to be Panarin or Stone, but there are deals that could work for both teams.... |
